I'm Confused....

First of all, I heard AATY out of the blue while driving to work yesterday, so it is getting airplay. Hearing it for the first time blasting out of six speakers in my car confirmed one thing for sure - Arnel does NOT sound like Steve Perry. It's the Journey style, but he has his own voice.

Having said that - KFRC is advertising a contest to win Journey tickets "with their NEW LEAD SINGER!!!!!".....

Except the voice coming out of the speakers is Steve Perry and HIS version of the classics, not the new ones.

What gives? I thought the purpose of the new GH versions was to use in cases like this!

I'm confused! :?

I think Journey is hoping to use the re-records for movies and maybe commercials (truck commercials, taco bell commercials..lol!)

The commercials on the radio probably was made by the radio station (well who ever owns the radio station.)

Hey girl, think back a few years .......... back to what we affectionately referred to as the "Raised on Rodeo" tour...... had the same problem.

the band was pushing Augeri and Perry was the voice in the promos ......

Of course the misconception was all due to Perry fans being hysterical and too dillusional to tell the difference.

the reason to re record was 2 fold, wal mart wanted a hits they could sell at a lower pricepoint, im order to side step sony, the band rerecords thier songs for a new label( thier own) so they dont have to pay sony(they own the master recordings)also when they do this without perry they can license those songs to movies/commercials and dont have to pay preformance rights to perry, and more than likely a lower rate to arnel, making them more money than the sony controlled masters. a local station dosent have to pay an extra fee to use the originals in a promo spot because its considered promotion(for give a ways/tickets/contests only)
many bands have done this in the past.

That reminds me of the Styx promo for a concert running here currently that features Babe and Mr. Roboto predominently in the spot. Some fans not in the know will be gravely disappointed in no DDY... or ...pleasantly surprised when they don't have to hear Babe or Roboto!

I read a recent thread on this that the band usually does not develop or approve the adverisements, its the local promoter. I assume that is correct.

Only a relative few batshit crazy fans like us track things at this level...

Average Jane/Joe hasn't a clue and doesn't much want one. :D
