I thought they did a really good job mixing it too. I would of took the backing track from the Chile festival, and just lifted the three vocals off the other performances and overdubbed it... but then the videos would not sync.... AHHH see there is a reason I have yet to attempt to do this...

Well I would say there wasn't any "good footage" of DVD quality of Open arms, and also I would say a lot people either forgotten or didn't release he was touring with Journey for a short period of time, and they never recorded anything of decent quality to advertise, or did they?.

They must only use Journey singers who have released material with the group..

one other point to remember is that JSS only did Open Arms with Journey very few times. Deen did the song 95% of the tour.

Agreed, although I'd put Perry's bar a little bit higher.

Not based on those clips. In my opinion Perry sounds 'off' on Open Arms live compared to the studio. Something about the way he sings the words 'Open Arms' it just doesn't seem to soar. Seems weird to say it as I think Perry in his active years was by far the best vocalist I ever heard but on that clip alone he comes off worse. Love Augeri's tone but Arnel owns it!

Cool Mix!
I really liked all three of these guys for different reasons when at their best. Perry stopped impressing me after Escape. Augeri was a very good replacement and gave us Journey back, and Arnel makes me excited for the present and future. The mix does a good job of showing how each of them brings something similar, yet different to the songs. I'm a big fan of JSS, but after hearing him twice live fronting Journey I was completely turned off at the thought of him being the permanent replacement. Arnel was and is the right move. His voice is the best suited to the Journey catalog. We'll see how he holds up. IMO Journey has had three excellent singers...SP, SA and now Arnel.

I said he stopped impressing me after Escape...I didn't say I didn't think he was still a great singer. Thanks for call me silly btw... But I'm sure that's not the worst thing I'll be called around here. Anyway...I liked all three of our Journey singers. The you tube mix was kinda cool. Let's not turn this into yet another thread were you must defend SP.

That chart resembles a hand making some sort of gesture.

I think your chart is more accurate than mine is.

I'd say nobody can beat the original coz he MADE the song. No matter how good the predecessors are, they will just be as good as how they could sing the way the original did. Please note that i'm a new journey fan. Cool video, i don't see it as comparing them, but something for us to realize how good the song is no matter who's the frontman. Also, it means that their (band) choices are right all the time. Love it!

Nobody will ever be better than Steve Perry. He was/is to musical vocals as what Michael Jordan was to the NBA. It's really foolish to compare anybody to his talents. The argument then basically becomes a game of horse shoes amongst the other lead singers in the band. I think from there, it really just comes down to personal tastes. I think Arnel has a great voice, but I actually prefer Augeri or Soto since their voices were much different from Perry's.
