I miss Steve Augeri. I clicked on a few of the other performances of this song and found this one... this is proof positive that Perry wasn't
always perfect!

He just stretched it out a bit. I like the look on Neals face.

I like the vocal on this concert. Sounds like Perry is singing without any effects at all.

Always been a fan of Augeri's voice........
Its sad that he didnt get the chance to record an album like Revelation.....
although Arrival was very! good......just too many songs on it......
On the long run he maybe wasnt the right guy to do the dirty dozen 7 nites a week but he always sounded great on his own stuff!

He'll always be a kind of hero to me for being the first one to "bring Journey back to life" in concert. I remember how excited I was to be at the first show in Marin, and he won me over instantly.

I'm a big Augeri fan, but that's simply not true.
Most of the boots circulating out there of "Higher Place" or "All the Way" are horrible.

Actually I meant his performance on Arrival and Generations.....but you are right, it reads like I was talking about him singing live.....

I think you're confusing the bad recording and odd mic levels with a vocal issue. He sounds as good here as he always did. He's not out of pitch, not off key and he's hitting the notes. The issue's with the recording, not his voice.

Augeri's "Higher Place" and "All The Way" are still within my Journey's Top 20.

You might be right about that. It almost sounds like screeching to me in certain spots.

Augeri nailed that song, well except for a minor lyrical fuck up. The dude was really good and it bums me out how Journey treated him. The dude done a great job and should still be in the band. Steve Augeri, you are missed dude.

Augeri was a very good singer, that is for sure. It is a bit sad for him that Arnel is that good, because now Augeri is considered the less good of the 3.

One can't help but feel somewhat regretful that this Walmart deal came together so late.
Would've been nice for Augeri to take part in their success.

Well isn't he? I bet he's getting a nice pay check.
Only one not getting anything is JSS.

I don't mean monetary success, I mean vindication of his talent and his era as a whole.

I know, but atleast he's getting something for his contribution which must feel pretty good.
Maybe he doesn't mind the more private route than the big corporate spotlight.

Yep.
Arrival was worthy of this kind of marketing deal/blitz.
It didn't get any and a great album got ignored for the most part.
Subsequently, lackluster sales of Arrival didn't help with Neal
and Jon's motivation to make a great follow...
They gave us
Generations instead.
Oh well, even with bad production, at least we got
Augeri's version of FITH (which I like better, vocally)
and 2 killer Deen tracks

Arrival got leaked months before the release and was all over the internet. I doubt spending money on marketing would've helped much. Everyone that wanted it already had it, except for those that just won't pirate music. But like you said, with the proper marketing and then keep it from getting leaked, it probably would have done scores better.

I really like(d) Augeri. The YouTube clip was a pretty good version of The Party's Over. Despite the poor audio etc... I like Steve's rendition of this tune. Not done that often in concert. I like the live version of Remember Me I heard SA do as well. I hope time is good to SA and I'm very much looking forward to hearing the new music he is supposedly working on.

Awesome as always especially cause that was the year they were going to take a break, and didnt. That was a moment they could have stopped and made a decision to be a credible band. I hear the crowd, they were the good ole days. Thanks for the clip.I miss the shit out of Steve Augeri

Right, this was posted before, and most everyone was in awe of Perry sounding that good on a one-off performance at the '81 Bammie Awards Show. No reverb, just raw singing. The whole band was on fire that night. And that was also Jon's first performance with Journey.

anyone who saw the early vacations over shows
(not the ones where the were with other headliners)
of which i saw 3 , knows how good steve a was, he revived my favorite band and returned them to
rock band status, and arrivial with a little tweeking of the jap and us releases, and cutting it to 11 tracks(leaving of filler)
is an excellent cd.

God yes...that's the most bad ass I've EVER heard JOURNEY sound. I LOVE that he sounds raw here...it's what we used to call...ummm.. ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

Augeri crushed this song... what a treat it woulda been to see this one live a few years ago. I'm a huge fan of this song and always have felt its one of the most underrated Journey songs out there - great motown/soul and dare I say funk influences underlying the basic Journey sound more than ever here.
