Post count survey...

This is NOT a thread to piss people off, just a thread out of curiosity! How many of you think that someone who's new to the Forum (say under a year, or even 6 months), should be able to come in here and be disrespectful to others in here who have been here for quite a while? Should thread count even count? Does your post count matter at all? Do the countless hours you spend on this forum count when it comes to newcomers? I guess this is all subjective, but I'm just curious to see what the general opinion is...

Post count does not reflect how long someone has been here.

Many people post much and say nothing. Personally, I think the post count should be removed.

I'm with you on the naked part...I'm already there! I do think that spending countless hours on here, being friends to several others that spend those same hours here counts for something though! Maybe it's just because I'm military minded, but I'm used to the concept of seniority. I think if you invest the hours and time to get to know people here, it should count for something. That's not to say that I think it should count as a free pass though! If someone's being a serious ass, it doesn't matter HOW long they've been here. JMHO.

On your point Nolippin', I agree that we really DON'T know how long people have been lurking here. I was present probably 4-5 years ago, but never got interested enough to sign up until a couple of years ago. Maybe I should have added the option that "Lurking" time should be included in the count? I know there's plenty of them here!

Same here. I lurked before joining for years. Look at when you joined and when I joined and note the difference in post count.

What I feel is out of line is when people act like their opinion is worth more because they post more. It may only be because they have more time on their hands. I think quality of post should matter, too. Many posts are nothing but "me, too"s or emoticons. That's why I discount the number of posts entirely.

Being a newbie here myself I think anybody should be able to come in here and post their own opinions so long as they are respectful of everybody. With that said it would be nice if everybody was respectful of everybody else. We all have opinions, that does not mean that ours is the right or wrong it just means that we think and or feel a certain way.

Well, it definitely goes both ways.

For those of us that have been around for awhile,
we do take offense when some newb comes in here
and just starts slinging shit for the sake of having some
fun or srarting trouble. Most times it's a lack of knowing
"how things work here" or they just don't have good
"Forum Ettiquette". Given some time, we all learn the ropes.

But all of us vets have to be nice to the newbs too
Like me, how many of you out there are hesitant to interact with
newbs right away? It's hard to distinguish who is genuine and who
is a reject from other boards using different names, some times multiple,
just looking to stir shit up. but I at least try to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Their true colors eventually unfold...

Me too! :D Just kidding.

I agree with you on post counts not counting for anything........somebody that posts alot doesn't mean they are on the board any more than some lurkers. Some people may come on and post a whirlwind of posts to catch up on things and then be off........same token, some people may read these boards for hours and never post. So I don't believe you can go on post count for how much time somebody spends on the board. I think any newbies who have lurked for any amount of time know what the board is about and gets a feel for who is who.......or at least if they were smart they would get a feel for the board first. This board is GREAT, it's like a little community of like minded people with a passion for melodicrock music......so ya of course anybody jumping in first time to attack a long timer is going to be put in their place. There is a way to deliver your opinions and way not to.

You're making vary valid points Nolippin. Quality posts should mean more.

I know personally, I tend to act like a big brother (and get in other's business) when I feel that someone I like is wronged. I know I need to just let people do what they will, but I guess it reminds me of high school a little....I was always the one to stand up for others when I thought they were threatened. I got in several fights for people who couldn't fight back, and I guess I just held onto that after all these years. I need to just let people settle their own differences. I'm not just saying this because of last night, but I've noticed that I do it quite a bit in here...I'm going to make a concerted effort to stop!

BTW, If anyone needs me to kick some ass (outside of here of course), just let me know!

Thanks!

I don't know what happened last night. I've never been a fan of the "piling on" stuff. People should be allowed to express their agreement or disagreement with anyone...regardless of how "popular" they are...without feeling like they're going to be jumped on. Of course, it should all be done with respect. That just goes without saying.

I agree wholeheartedly. There was a major clique that existed here for far too long. As much as I enjoyed these forums I always felt I'd get shouted down if I didn't toe the party line. Seemingly some of them are now gone. As a long time lurker, that was an impetus for me to start posting at least a little bit. Personally, I'd never run up much of a post count regardless, but it's cool to share some opinions every once in awhile. Thanks all!

Thanks for your input man, and I enjoy your posts. I agree with what you said about the Cliques. I think a lot of people felt the same way. Again, I apologize for last night. I re-read some of my posts, and I came across as a serious ass!
