Cain says Perry will never be in Journey again

Haven't seen this anywhere on here, forgive if it HAS been discussed

Journey keyboardist and songwriter Jonathan Cain says that former lead singer Steve Perry will never play with the band again.

Journey has just released their latest album called Revelation, which features new lead singer Arnel Pineda, who was discovered by the band on youtube.com performing Journey songs and sounding exactly like Perry.

Cain was asked if the band ever thought to asking Steve Perry to rejoin the band, rather than finding the perfect sound-a-like vocalist: "No, because he really sealed the deal back in '98 and said, 'Don't expect anything from me, you know, we're done. You and I are done.' So I know that he keeps his word and I would not make that call be cause I know that he's quite happy with the life he has. And it's pretty rigorous out here. What we do is very rigorous, and he doesn't need it. Why does he need it, you know? His legacy is already there."

I hope they don't call the guy back. What a pain in the ass the guy is to deal with. AMAZING vocalist. AMAZING writer, but what a pain in the ass.

Nah....Schon thinks he's found his next Perry.
Check out Arnel's DSB on the DVD, then pop in the Escape DVD. I laughed my ass off when I watched one after the other. I didn't really want to compare, but I couldn't help myself!
Perry's legacy is in CONCRETE. That has to get under Cain's skin big time.

.....and I hope when "Journey" is all said and done, that he does! :) I would love to see those 2 park it in some room somewhere and just see what chemistry/creativity flows out of them still.

I betcha Schon was just as much of a pain in Perry's ass, with the booze factor fanning the flames.

I actually watched the BTM last night (Red13JoePa inspired me with his two quotes from the episode). After watching it again, I came to the conclusion there are no bad guys in the breakup. It's all ego and stubbornness. Just a bunch of headstrong guys (specifically Herbie and Perry). Perry wound up winning that battle in '95. However, when the guys basically told him to shit or get off the pot, his stubbornness probably got the best of the situation. I do not blame Schon, Cain, Valory, and company for continuing on one bit. They were probably pissed, thinking in hindsight, after all this we should've just continued in the 80s.

I think that stubbornness still prevails after all this time too. It may be why Perry doesn't pick up the phone or talks to Neal after all this time. He may feel a little betrayal in his mind, but also may know it may be tempting to go back. However, his ego won't let him go back, so he eliminates all contact and temptation.

Cain knows it, and basically gave Perry a compliment in saying he sticks to his word.

Maybe so. It was my understanding that the alcoholic thing started post-Perry.

IMO, Cain was "baiting" SP by say how rigorous it is out on the road...implying SP couldn't handle it anymore.

Why should it? I think the "J-Boys" all acknowledge and respect the legend that Steve Perry is. They are just trying to move on with their music, and I think for the first time in a very long time, they are content with where they are at. Steve Perry on the other hand, does not seem content to me. He sounds like a tortured soul.

I don't think that's the case. However, it would probably be difficult for any singer at his age to perform the current schedule. If he ever would tour, the smart thing to do, would be do a show, take a day off, show, day off, etc. Maybe even a two day break on occasion.

I took it as, "the guy has more money than God and he doesn't need to work this hard, his legacy is intact."

Did you read the interview he did with the GQ guy? It sounds like everything related to Journey or singing causes him a great deal of emotional pain. he can't even stand to hear his own singing voice sometimes because "it sounds like Steve Perry".

How do you know, did you ask him? :D

It's not like any of us know them personally, any more than they know us personally.

Yet here we are, picking sides, acting like we were there, acting like we know these guys like they're our long lost friends, knowing exactly what they meant and what they implied every time they open their mouth.

It's just plain silly. :-) We're fans, not friends.

That is another theory. One I hope is not true. If it's not true, then it's disappointing someone with so much talent not to be using it.

You have got to be kidding....Schon's drinking problem that he has aluded over the last couple years, is a bit overplayed. Does he look like a boozer? The guy looks he has taken care of himself throughout the years, and his problems are nothing like an Eddie Van Halen....

If anything Perry and Schon are equally overly egotistical...And it's easy to see why...they have uncommon, incredible musical gifts, respectively. Sometimes that goes to your head.

See, being a perry fan, as they're only so very happy to try and jam down everyone's throat at every turn, is all about "class" and being above this sort of thing
