There's a reason Deen sings Mother Father too. Fact is, Arnel has a GREAT voice, but he's not as high a tenor as Perry is. Listen to interviews of both singers when they're just talking and you'll hear just how high pitched Perry is, even with the damage and at his age. The high tenor is still evident. Revelation songs are not sung in Perry's heyday vocal comfort zone at all. I think Sunshower is in 'D', isn't it? Aren't most of Escape in 'C'? (anyone?)
For these reasons, I fear for Arnel's long term vocal health. I hope they don't burn him out.
I think that Deen sings Mother, Father for two reason.
One- He seems really, really connected to that song. It must have some personal meaning of some sort. I don't care what anybody says. His performance on the Revelation DVD has just as much soul and heart as the Houston performance years ago, if not more.
Two- They are not at a point where Deen needs to "step up" and "help out" like what was needed towards the end of Augeri, and almost all of Sotos tenure. I believe now he sings just because he can and everyone loves it. Mother Father seems to be one of his staples though.
Trust me... If it
had to be done... Arnel could do Mother Father, Lay It Down, or even Patiently or Sweet and Simple if they wanted too.
