Not necessarily one of my favorite comedians, but he was definitely one of a kind...

George has been dodging the reaper for years. I wasn't a fan of his standup but his role on Thomas the Tank Engine was something I enjoyed watching with my son when he was a tyke.

Just read this myself!! I used to like his comedy on tv, but I've seen him twice live and was severely disappointed both times, espeically just weeks after 911 when a big part of his act was bashing police.
Still, he was one of our outspoken icons.

After being a fan since his days as the Hippy-Dippy Weather Man on Rowan & Martin's Laugh In, I finally saw George perform live at a small theater in Anaheim about a year and a half ago.
As I expected, he was absolutely brilliant.
What I liked best about him was how so much of his material revolved around the simple concept of pointing out how many of life's everyday things, challenges, and situations were completely ridiculous. Observational humor at its best.
I had planned on seeing him again here in San Diego next month.
RIP, my man...

Last trip
No bags allowed.
Sad, as it was just a few hours ago
not too far away
A man just like the rest of us
rushing to the hospital
scared on this unbearably hot evening
not worried about his stuff
fighting for his life
today the last show
before the curtain came down
Talented Comedian
He will be missed

This is some sad, sad news to me as well as a ton of other people I'm sure. He was awesome and without a doubt definitely one of a kind.
Right about now, I hope he is thinking something like "Huh......so THIS is what happens on the other side. At least now I don't have to worry about where to put my stuff..."
Rest in peace dude, and thanks for the many, MANY laughs.

This is VERY sad news. Carlin was one of the most brilliant comedians this country has EVER seen. Behind all the "7 dirty words" was a brilliant, deep-thinking, person. I saw Carlin live many, many times, over the years, and left every show astounded by the man's brilliance!

So Sad. Love part of his comedy not all of it. At least we have him on DVD.

I used to watch his shows on HBO back when I was a teen and used to really like his work. The last time I saw or heard anything from Carlin through was back when I was living in Japan when the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure came out.

His New York show that featured the airline safety speech is legendary. The whole skit is a classic. Dude was fucking funny, man.

I wasn't a particularly big fan of Carlin but he certainly forged his own path and was his own man. I can respect that. RIP

Carlin while not one of my favorite comics, will be missed. His live act was different for sure. We saw him in 2005 he was perfroming at the Stardust in Vegas, he said he was preparing for his next HBO special. The first 30 minutes were VERY FUNNY! Then he went inot a 40 skit on suicide and how to make a show out of it, kinnda a buzz kill.
Another perormer of our era is gone

Since seeing his routine on "Stuff" as a teen I have been hooked on his humor.
I'm sadly to say the least.
May his family find comfort in the laughter he brought to the world.

it is interesting how some are huge fans and others.... not so much. looks like our political bent is showing.
no surprise here, i love george carlin! i met him in a resataurant here in santa monica about 4 years ago, very nice man. his wit and intelligence will be missed. certainly a true original with brilliant insight.

My comments on him don't really have anything to do with him politically, I found a lot of his stuff hilarious, but it was his language and the untactful timing of his comedy after 911. Now, you've seen my mouth on here(lol) and I do swear like a sailor, but when I saw him live, he really went a little overboard. When every other word is fuck, I think you lose your comedy to what I"m sure George saw as freedom of expression.

I couldn't be more upset... my favorite comedian ever.
Groundbreaker all the way. Absolutley loved him.
Was listening to him as a little kid... there was a copy of
Class Clown in my house - I used to have to sneak it to listen.
Good times, George. Good fucking times. Thanks for the laughs.
