well, some were in another thread...about voices that just make you stop in your tracks. Listen to John West's song, "Goin' Home" on his myspace:

I love John's voice and found this last week...today was a bad day (found me crying in the car wash - my autistic daughter is a real challenge) and his voice is just soothing the beast much like my fave singer, Steve Perry does...

Thanks, good link up.
Amazing how some voices can soothe while others can drive you up a wall.

would have been interesting to hear him singing Journey. According to an interview with Neal circa Arrival on this site, he was one of those who auditioned, and vocally apparently was impressive.

Thanks for the link. I must admit I am in the dark as well to this artist. This just goes to show there are many fine musicians out there that never get heard.

True that! But you can't tell Saint John that.

I heard somewhere along the line that Neal Schon wanted John West for Journey back in the Augeri audition days.

Had Journey stuck with going in a new direction, other than Soto, John West would have been a huge addition. Check out 'Place Vendome'. I really think that it's what Journey could have been with John West.

Love John West - great talent even though his name is shared with a brand of tuna here in the UK. Didn't like the Eric Martin song that was also posted here - it sounds like he was gargling blood whilst singing. It seemed pitchy as hell to me but I think it might just be his tone that irritates although others might like it.
It definitely would have been interesting to see John West with Journey and I remember getting pretty excited when his name was bandied about after the JSS debacle.

Yes, this is the John West that was formerly with Artension and Royal Hunt and also was considered for Journey lead singer in the 90s along with Steve Augeri. Andrew had an interview about a year or two ago with John (which is how I discovered him - thank you, Andrew!) I highly recommend Royal Hunt's 2006 LIVE DVD...an import 'tho...makes me mad that the DVD gets stuck on my fave song! Something to do with the import.
Here's my fave song:

(thanks, Deb - it just got to me today when even the Special Needs camp counselors couldn't handle her for the 15 min. they were waiting for a bus - I had to come back & get her...I was hoping this was gonna work & give me a needed break...guess not) At least, I get Saturday night.
