iTunes and Lossless...

Postby Journey69 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 3:48 pm

You haven't heard Revelation til you've heard it in Lossless! If you use itunes, right click the song and you will see"convert to apple lossless" keep in mind the file will go from about 3 megs to about 30 megs! I wouldn't do too much music unless you have a 320 gig ipod or something. Arnel impresses me everytime I hear him! The way he nails the Perry sound is freaking awesome..Augeri did too and I love him for it! Change for the better,Where did I lose your love..Classics. Wish they would have done more songs like those. Also,I loved "All the things" it was different and edgy..World gone wild was Neal's song, all guitar, loved how Augeri sang it. Live and Breath,Can't get enough of that song..We will meet again..I can't get over how Augeri sings it..Totally nails the Perrism.. I just don't see how people that like Journey can't like it? Anyways...Lossless my friends! Its so good its not even fair..

The only way to do it correctly is to import it "lossless" from the CD. Once it's been converted to mp3 or aac, the loss is there and can't be replaced properly and has to be reripped to hear it in it's full quality.

I think the idea is to get it on your iPod without the losses you suffer with compressing.

I think Rick is right.. You can get all the tunes on amazon with no DRM content. They are all at 256 kps. Sounds better but doesn't leave a giant footprint. itunes has itunes plus ,but not alot of albums on it. Revelations uncompressed..Wow.. Andrew you should try it.. :)

Actually an original CD is as good as it gets. Anything that's done to the recording after that, except for a lossless reproduction, reduces the quality.

The more advanced the technology gets the worse everything is sounding....we should all be able to listen music
at 24 bit , but NOO we get 120 bit rate crap shoved down are throat....YUK! even cd's are 16 bit and compressed to hell.

Are wav files ripped as 16bit pcm the equivalent of what you hear on the cd?

I'm not a sound geek but I'm starting to be able to hear the difference between a high-quality clip and a low-quality clip.

In particular on my iTunes/iPod I hear a ton of difference, mainly, between certain downloads I've made and music I've ripped from CD.

It is funny that some people think that CD has a weaker quality sound than compressed files.

BTW, .wav files are not always compressed and can have the same sound quality than a CD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave_file

WRONG - 44.1/16 WAV (or AIFF) files are uncompressed - and the same as CD. They are the same as the original source. Same with lossless.

MP3, MP4, AAC are all compressed.

ALAC, FLAC, and all other lossless forms are the same as the original but just work like ZIP. There is no audio compression applied.

YOu cannot take a lossy AAC or MP3, convert it to lossless, and get back what you lost. All you did was make a bigger file from a shitty source.

This isn't rocket science folks, yet so many get it wrong.

I just read up on it, and you're correct. No compression in that form. Some are, however.

ACTUALLY, basically, Apple and all these other MP3 companies are in the business of steering you towards compressing your music. They really push these MP3 players, and promise 15,000 songs, 20,000, 30,000 songs fitting on the player....what they fail to put iin BIG, BOLD letters is that those figures are based on bit rates of 128.
