OT- iTunes/iTunes store question?

I don't use the iTunes store very much but earlier this year I got a few iTunes gift cards for my birthday so I decided to spend them very wisely... on some Melodic Rock, of course!

I got Danny Vaughn's Traveller, Line of Fire, and Bonrud.

HOWEVER, just the other day I was feeling some LoF, and I went to go jam out to it but all of a sudden my iTunes had something pop up saying my computer was unauthorized to play this file?!

I was curious, and tried every song from every album I had iTunes'd and none of them would play due to the same reason. How could this computer (the one I bought the music on) suddenly be unauthorized to play the songs? I'm pretty confused and miffed right now and any help would be killer.

The same thing happened to me when I created an iTunes account.
You should be able to authorize your computer by clicking on "store" and selecting authorize computer. That's what I did.
If you've tried that already and it's still giving you crap I have no idea what's wrong. Sorry.

Hope that helps!

Fuck Itunes and Apple and all those that sell copy protected files. They cause more headaches than they are worth. Just go to Amazon.com and check out the Digital Downloads MP3 store. Music sold in high bitrate format with no copy protection to fuck you up. You can play these on Ipods or any MP3 player. They automatically download into Itunes for all you non geek types that want it easy. Unfortunately, if you purchase from Itunes and decide to drop the Ipod for something else, the only way to play these files is to burn them to CD's and re-rip them to MP3 files which causes sound quality loss and is a pain in the ass.

I purchased some tunes from the Yahoo Music store that were copy protected and then they went out of business. No longer playable thanks to copy protection. I only buy CD's now or copy protection free files from Amazon or Emusic.

Thanks for the heads-up dude. I'm more of a straight-up CD type of guy myself but if I decide to buy some more downloads I'll be sure to check out the Amazon store.

iTunes and Napster are beginning to sell non-DRM files. They don't have extensive collections yet, but they should grow. Same price as their DRM files, too.

Yes, this is true of some files. Another nice thing Amazon has is every Friday they have 5 MP3 album downloads at $5 each. They choose the 5, and they are not just junk. Picked up Fleetwood Mac's Rumours this week for $5. They also run a daily special of a single MP3 album ranging from $1.99 to $3.99. They had Coldplay's "Rush of Blood to the Head" last week for $1.99. Sweet deals!

I need to look into that! I actually don't care for iTunes. I'll buy something every now and then but for the most part I just needed it to go with my iPod. *shrug*

THANK YOU for buying the LINE OF FIRE album...I really appreciate it!

As for copy protection on iTunes, you can burn the files as a regular CD, then change your settings on iTunes to rip as MP3's instead of iTunes files (MP4) and they'll load up to any MP3 player...

ALSO -

on iTunes, if you download from iTunes as MP4, there is an option to convert the file to MP3...go into your settings and select your bit rate, then when you right click any given MP4 track in iTunes, you'll get the option to "Convert Selection To MP3"...

I did the same thing and having an Amazon account made it even easier.

Definitely the way to go.

iTunes will convert them to MP3...it's in your Settings and Right-Click menu on individual tracks...

You cannot convert normal Itunes purchased songs this way. They have copy protection and MP3 doesn't support copy protection. If you have non copy protected Itunes files (CD's you've ripped or non DRM Itunes files) you can convert them from within Itunes this way. You do lose some quality though as you are transcoding from one compressed format to another.
