GOLD BABY..GOLD!!!!!

MR can now look for avatars to replace W2's beloved Friga. How long is to be determined. Some good time constraints mentioned to me are A)The Summer B)For as long as Journey is on tour C)until they hit Platinum D) All of the above
E)Until W2 can't stand it no more
8)

This little CD has some staying power ...... barely hanging outside the Top 10 after Week #4.

I'll affirm my previous prediction again: 'Revelation' goes platinum by the end of the U.S.-leg of the summer tour (c. October 1st), after 17 weeks on the charts.

Touring with Heart and Cheap Trick will turn-out to be a good business decision. It opens-up a whole new market to 'Revelation' who probably won't purchase it before the concert tour, but possibly will after hearing the new songs in concert.

Journey will have to sell 243,928 albums (x2) in the 12 weeks between July 9 and October 1 for the album to go platinum. These just happen to be the 12 weeks of the tour. They'd have to sell at least 20,327 albums each week, for 12 weeks.

(And I haven't even included next week's album sales in the totals. That'll probably be another 15,000 x 2, at least.)

Prediction: I think 'Revelation' will be able to sell 20,000+ albums per week, and the album will stay in the top 20 throughout the period. It'll be platinum by the end of the U.S. tour.

What a way to 'back door' into gold status.....

Way to go Journey.....

If this way a single CD release, there is not way it reaches Gold within the first 6 months.....food for thought.

By the way, I really dig the CD, alot....well just maybe the first half of it.....

Give it up your drum is getting tired. I reckon given the same deal and promotion through Walmart Revelation as a single disc package would have reached gold status within six months easily.

The fact that it is doing so well is the icing on the cake for a what has been a great 2008 thus far for the band.

Not that I'm trying to belittle the success of the new album, but do you think it would've done as well as quickly if it had been just the new album and not the DVD and the re-recorded greatest hits?

Not as well as the triple disc set is exceptional value for money. Its great that in the age of downloading, both illegal and legal, a band such as Journey can release a physical product that actually sells. In this instance I reckon the new release will have exceeded even their own expectations.

Really enjoying the new album, really didnt care about tossing the other disc in the garbage, really like the mix in the
live dvd, dissapointing they didnt include more of the new tunes on it, i really have zero interest watching them play
the old songs, have a houston dvd thats quite okay....
I hope it sells well for them , they deserve it.

Something tells me if Arrival had been packaged, along with the Journey 2001 dvd, at the $11 mark, at Wal-Mart, it would have sold at least as many as Revelation

When Arrival came out torrents weren't all the rage yet, even though peer2peer was going strong but mostly for tech savy types. I think Illegal downloads must be at the minimum twice what they were back then and probably have taken a signifcant percentage out of the sales for all the current artists (especially now that DSL and cable are so cheap it won't take you 30 minutes to download like it did back then). Arrival coupled with a DVD thrown in would have probably done a million units in two weeks back at that time IMO.

Why are you so concerned which "door" Journey enters to get into the Gold room? It's Gold...deal with it.

Because it's not genuinely gold. 500,000 units were not sold. That means 500,000 people do not own this CD package. That means it didn't truly earn it's gold status. That means it has yet to equal let alone surpass previous album sales.

By this math, why not put together a disk package containing 10 disks with one song per disk next time? That way they can reach platinum status even though only 100,000 people will have paid for it. It's not honest math.

I'll go along with what the RIAA says. You can abide by/make up your own rules. No skin off my rod.
