Not really sure what your point is RWF, but I can assure you that I don't have a discriminatory bone in my body, despite my direct vocabulary. In fact, I was beyond stunned (and disappointed) when I saw a CNN poll that showed what religion a candidate is, mattered to the vast majority of the country! I can assure you that it has never, and will never matter to me. I'm proud to say that I've never voted for ANY candidate, based upon which god he or she prayed to!

Mitt Romney was the governor of my home state, and I voted for the guy! I also think he did a pretty good job, as governor of Massachusetts. To my knowledge, Massachusetts is the only state in the country with universal healthcare, and Romney was the catalyst for that becoming a reality! For the record, I do think McCain is too damn old to be the president, regardless of any of his other qualifications! The federal government REQUIRES that ALL of its employees retire by the age of 65 (whether they want to, or not). Why should McCain be any different?

Actually, very little I say is without sarcasm. I can assure you that there wasn't an ounce of malice, as it pertains to Mr. Romney's religion! As I stated, I am appalled that most of this country actually gives a fuck about the religious leanings of ANY political candidate. There are a whole lot of issues to be concerned about, as it pertains to political candidates. Religion isn't one of them, in my opinion! My mention of his Mormon religion was nothing more than poking fun at the fact that anyone even gives a shit! As I stated, I voted for the guy, and would again, if McCain weren't 100 years old

My take when I first saw Enigma869's comment was that calling Romney "the Mormon" was bordering on bigotry.

Anyway it wont happen. Rommney is a risk, but without a big upside. He wouldn't help carry Massachussets or Michigan, and we dont know what undercurrent of anti Mormon bigotry is there in the evangelical base of the GOP . My hunch is that its not as great as people say it is but a risk anyway and if you are going to take a risk anywhay and go for someone who has an exciting upside, and a future like Jindal. Or Rice - a real risky move with an upside. Both those have associated risks, but you'd get your base fighting for you.

That just really seems to go along with McCain's "Reaching across the aisle" philosophy, and most cons that I know really like Joe.

Romney reveled in them throughout the primaries.
Didn't he say he was dropping out at the CPAC convention specifically so that the lefties won't be able to let the terrorists win?
Every candidate courts the base during a campaign, but Giuliani and Romney were the cheapest, most unconvincing panderers of the bunch.
Romney's responses to the Boston Globe's survey on Executive Power were also quite revealing.
Forget McCain, Romney would be closer in line to a third Bush term.

I know he fails to live up to the expectations of the conservative base, but alot of Democrats would crosssover for Huckabee as VP - especially with his populist kitchen counter rhetoric.

My mom is 67 and went to work at her job at the Federal Bankruptcy Court today. Last time I checked, 67 was more than 65 and she has not been REQUIRED to retire.
