What would it sound like if Steve and Arnel sung Open Arms as a Duo? Listen for yourself.

There's been about 2 dozen posts containing mixes with Steve Perry, Arnel Pineda, JSS and so forth. Each person with their own workup of it, so I'm sure people are tired of seeing them posted. But yours was done way better than any I've seen so far and hopefully people will give it a chance before making judgment. ;) Thanks again, cool stuff.

Obviously a lot of effort went into the production of this mp3. Its very clever and intriguing to listen to as well as very different to other files of this type and cut/paste YouTube efforts.

Great work and ignore the naysayers.

My 2 cents and it might not even be worth that.

I may come across as a naysayer since I hate these types of comparisons. Personally, I do believe they actually do more damage than good for AP and Journey. I think AP is doing a fantastic job with Journey and it just keeps getting better and better. People should just let him be Arnel and knock off the comparisons

Here’s my story. I work with change management a lot and one of the first things you learn is not to let people get put on the defensive. Once people start getting defensive, they get their heels dug in. Your chances of getting them to accept change now are greatly reduced. So for some of those fence sitters are there, you may actually be forcing them into not accepting AP as they still may have some loyalty to a former singer rather than gradually accepting Journey today. In their eyes, you may have now made it personal and their immediately reaction is “I’m going to defend my man” as opposed to listening with more of an open mind. Particularly those that make statements like AP is better than….. really manage to get people’s heels dug in. I’ve yet to hear of a case where these types of comparisons have actually converted any fans.

First rule of management is surely to know what it is you are talking about. This file is not a comparison. It has one vocal transposed onto the other so it sounds like the two frontmen are singing together.

Not a comparison - a duet.

Thats was the other point I was going to make. Thanks for noticing what I was trying to do. Usually a Duet is a complement, not a comparison.

Ignore the bad comments - you did an amazing job with this. I guess Arnel and Perry singing together was just too much for some people especially as their voices were practically indistinguishable, on this song at least. Truth hurts! :D

RocknRoll,

With videos like this, there's really two possible reaction:

- to appreciate the piece as a duet and nothing more
- to interpret it as a comparison

Personally, I interpreted it as a duet, a very nice one. However, I would also be open to the possibility that some people will misinterpret it as a comparison. For such cases, I welcome your nice lesson on change management. You made a lot of great points.

To the original poster, thanks for the videos.

My apologies for making a statement out of turn. I didn't listen to the clip as I was expecting yet another comparison. Sounds like you did a great job on it.
