Steve Perry's feelings on Journey chart success

How do you think Steve Perry feels about Journey's newfound chart success? Since Steve's Departure (ouch) from the band, Journey have toured relentlessy, usually attracting decent attendance figures, and have regained a decent foothold in Europe. However, Journey has pretty much flown under the radar in terms of American chart success, until now. Steve has, at times, has also made some less than flattering remarks about his ex - bandmate's efforts to carry the torch without him - mentioning the hiring of 'sound - alike' singers and stating that he does not know the names of the singers who have fronted the band since he left. He must surely know the name of Arnel at his point. I remember reading an article, just after TBF was released, in which Steve was quoted as saying something along the lines of 'when I got the call that the album had gone into the charts at number 3, I was jumping for joy around my office.' Now, for the first time, Steve is seeing Journey riding high in the Billboard charts, without him at the helm. How do you suppose he feels about this - envious? Indifferent? Happy for Neal and co? Discuss.

I try to read just about everything that is posted by Steve Perry and current/past members of Journey and their team. I don't ever recall Steve ever saying anything negative about any of members of Journey or management. If there is something out there please post a link, as I would like to read it.

If he listens to radio and AATY or WDILYL comes on, I think he'd like it. They are good songs after all.

anyhow, a spike in sales of the Greatest Hits and Escape is going on. probably the new and casual fans are digging the old stuff.

From everything I read, Steve took the high road and Jon and Neal were defensive.

That is very true
I have to admit that puts things in a different light.
I don't usually like to see the world through the eyes
of Neal & Jon
Ross seems like a nice guy to me
I don't think he'd hurt a fly.

Still you're right

Steve did leave them
but it wasn't as if he did to hurt them
He literally had to take care of his life
before it fell apart.

That must have been devistating for Neal to be derailed that way
but looking back now
it was also a blessing in disguise
as they were all on a train
heading straight to disaster
So Steve jumped off first
The end result was
they all had to take stock in there life
& get themselves back together

I really think Neal sees that now
& if he doesn't he should
because not only does he have
Steve Perry to thank for his part of the band
but I think he may also helped save his life.

So now let's wish them the best
Come on guys
Forgive
Let it go
Be happy with your lives

Now back to our lives!!!!!

I think SP actually avoids news regarding Journey. Like was said earlier, the spike in sales of their earlier albums is probably putting some extra money in his pockets, so he has to know things are going well.

Hey everyone, no way Steve Perry cares at all. He does not perform because he has no need to from what I understand. That sounds normal to me.

Please...we're talking about some minor chart success in the first few weeks.

If you're not a dedicated fan or happen to have stopped in a Wal-Mart lately, do you even know Journey has a new record out? Probably not.

The only thing that might bother Perry is if "new" Journey entered the public consciousness and he was somehow replaced as the "face" of Journey in the eyes of the general public. (kinda like how most people probably think of Brian Johnson as the singer of AC/DC instead of Bon Scott) But that would require the band to achieve an Escape-level of success with an Arnel-led album.

My guess is that since Perry is still getting some tour money and is now getting royalties from the sale of Revelation since half of it is his songs, he's laughing all the way to the bank, while sitting on his ass doing nothing. (yes, there's rumors, but i'll believe it when I actually hear some new songs...which is to say I don't believe it)

Why the fuck would the man be crying?
You really think he gives a fuckin shit about those guys. He don't.
Steve Perry made millions, and has probably been waaaay more sensible with his money than any of the other band members.
Are this band gonna sell millions of copies of Revelation? No
Are this band ever gonna sell millions of copies of any future releases? No
I am pretty sure he really dont give a shit, and he's happy doing what he's doing, and aint gotta worry bout going on long tours every year just to pay his ex wives alimony.
In fact, he is probably laughin his ass off as he dont have to do all that shit at his age like the others do, just to make a buck or two.

No idea. I've never met him or spoken to him. Don't know him from a hole in the ground and he doesn't know me.

I'd be spouting off what I'd like to think Steve Perry feels, given that I don't know him.

does anybody know journey has a new record? yes maybe. especially to the people who watched ellen degeneres, cbs, people, gq; people who were curious on what happened to the guy on youtube. for some years journey is irrelevant to Ytube generations but recently they realized how rich the history journey had.

Maybe you should consider how they feel about him. Last thing I saw in print from Neal had this to say about Perry...

"Fuck him".

Neal said it loud and clear... I am under the impression that at least Neal feels that Steve held them back for less than honorable reasons hence he comments about Steve getting paid despite the fact he is not there. I think Neal ending that interview with hardy "Fuck him" was his way of saying "free at last, thank god almighty we are free at last !

I would be willing to bet that Steve is not happy about their "new lease on life". He is such a drama queen as anyone can plainly see from his interviews so I am sure he is feeling a little left out.. Journey was what took him off of the turkey farm. I am positive he still has an emotional attachment to that and to see them flying high again without him must sting a bit. People that were not fans before are seeing them as a new band. They see Arnel and accept him as "the voice" because for the new generation of fans he is. Perry, oh that was guy from the 80's.. The only thing stronger that Perry in this whole can of worms are the songs. They will never erase Perry from our minds however Joe Bob consumer the casual fan doesnt give a shit... The re-recording of the GH as more than a show off Arnel project. I think it was an attempt to get Arnels voice heard over Perry's.. To push Perry aside in otherwords.

You're right...in all the tons of interviews I have read, I have not seen/heard one negative coming out of Steve Perry's mouth regarding the other band members...in fact, in his last Q&A he is asked who musically influenced him the most? and his answer was, "Neal Schon"...hmmm...I think NS and co. should take lessons in etiquette from SP.

Maybe I am missing something, but Journey is flying high again?

I have yet to hear a single song from Revelation on the radio yet. Aside from a brief promotional campaign that saw an appearance on Ellen and that CBS Sunday morning show, I don’t know that the public has any clue who Arnel is.

I don’t see how this could be construed as a success story. Maybe from the few people on this board, but that’s about it.

Hmm... gold record and NWA is topping the playlists at Cleveland's 98.5 WNCX. That's some decent success in my neck of the woods. Maybe they aren't playing Revs on the stations around you, but the album is selling for sure.
