I actually have this issue.
Kerrang back then was a great mag.
Such a pity grunge came along a few years later and killed everything in one foul swoop.

Can somebody e-mail a copy to Neal?
Then he can read about the timescales of band member's solo projects. This article clearly states that Perry's Street Talk wasn't the first project begun outside Journey.

Tut tut, selective memory Neal.

Exactly Susie...

I enjoyed this line too:

"'Street Talk" has scaled remarkable heights in the States...while the first 45 culled, 'Oh Sherrie', has proved to be a monster hit, proving once and for all who is the band's true focal point."

This is such an old argument.

Schon/Hammer - HSAS. NS projects that sound nothing like Journey and were done during the band downtimes
StreetTalk =- Journey II. SP put the band on hiatus so he could do his solo album and basically dump the rest of the band.

Looks like SP asked for this interview so he could spin it his way.

We like old arguments on here!
And Neal just brought it up again in his recent interview in GQ, remember.

And its hard for a singer of a band not to sound like the band.

Yes..because Steve Perry wasn't singing on those projects...

Having said that.....didn't Neal sing a Schon and Hammer song on Journey's Frontiers tour? Shows that Schon and Hammer material was hardly the big departure many fans make it out to be....

Even the Kerrang! article says "proves once and for all"....which shows that the argument was an old one even in 1984....

EXACTLY!
What the heck would we talk about otherwise?

Picture the scene........
"Mornin' RocknRoll, what did you have for breakfast this morning? Muesli? Muesli is crap. Corn Flakes are better."

Yep, what fun would that be?

I wish I had kept my copies. If you do go looking through those boxes can you keep an eye out for a photo of a semi naked girl wrapped around Don Dokkens waist. I'm sure it was in black and white and was in the news section. I was telling Rip about it. While you're at it look out for a picture of Neal sitting on a skateboard.
