The "Twilight Zone-athon"

Just saw Trag's thread about Star Wars, and got to wondering....Am I the ONLY person who watches the Twilight Zones that come every year at this time? Nothing like 24 or 48 hours of Twilight Zones! I seriously have about 100 episodes on my DVR, and just can't ever get bored with them. I've probably seen every episode that's ever aired, like 5 times!

I thought it might be cool to have a thread that we could talk about our favorite episodes! I love so many, it's hard to pinpoint....

I really liked the episode where an arrogant, no-it-all, boasted so much in his lodge, that a fellow lodge member made a bet with him that he couldn't keep silent for 1 year. If he were to be successfull, he was going to get some rediculous amount of money. He accepted the wager, and they built the guy a room in the lodge with walls made of glass. He stayed in there the entire duration, and was CONSTANTLY tormented by the guy who made the bet with him. The guy would tell him he saw his wife with another man, and just completely torture the poor guy. This guy was unbreakable though, and just grinned and bared it.

After going through all of that, they let him out on the last day and he held out his hand to collect on his bet (yet still didn't utter a word). The guys told him "You can talk now", but he just made wierd faces at them. after he discovered that the guy he made the bet with was broke, he removed a scarf from around his neck that revealed a scar....He had had his vocal chords removed because he KNEW he couldn't keep quite.

That episode just REALLY got under my skin! There are so many kick-ass episodes though.....What are your favorites?

On the evening the bet is to be finalized, Taylor admits to his friends that Tennyson is much stronger than they gave him credit for. Tennyson wins the bet, and all the members of the club congratulate him, but he can’t collect; Archie confesses he has long since gone bankrupt, and had been maintaining a charade before the other members.

Tennyson is distraught in victory, and furiously scribbles out a note. Colonel Taylor reads it aloud, "I knew I would not be able to keep my part of the bargain, so one year ago I had the nerves to my vocal cords severed." As he finishes speaking, Tennyson pulls open his collar to reveal the long scar across his throat.

The only thing they had to do was push a button on this box, and "Someone they didn't know would die"....and they would get the money....I know this is a lame explanation, but that's all I can remember.

I've seen that episode!!! It wasn't "Outer Limits", I think it was one of the new Twilight Zone episodes that came out a few years ago. You explained it fine, but in the end, they found out that someone would have the choice to push the botton on them! Pretty messed up. I really enjoyed that one.

I think I watched "Night Gallery" more than "Twilight Zone". I do remember one that freaked me out about a little voodoo statue or something, couldn't sleep for days after that one. That might have been Night Gallery though, I can't remember.

You're right Larry, those 2 are classics! "Eye of the Beholder". I love the other one too. There are so many cool ones with the astronauts. I love the one where the three astronauts land on a planet that is very similar to Earth. They struggle to find water, and one kills both of the others to steal their water....Only to find out that they actually landed back on earth!

Have to watch them every year especially on New Years Eve. I love of course the one with Shatner and the plane, and another one about a woman who buys something in a department store and then finds out that she was talking with a manequin and not actual people.

I was shopping bending over this box of tank tops at the 99 cents store. I turn up to see him looking down. He just picked his head up & walked away sauntering like a proud rooster

A good one:

New Years Eve, New Orleans, wealthy old man, his whiney daughter, her greedy husband, their obnoxious son and egotistical daughter. The old man is dying with millions to leave behind. He wants them to put on ugly masks (actually ones that match their personalities. They have to do it or they are out of the will/millions. At midnight, the old man dies and the 4 take off the masks, only to find their faces now look like the masks.

Lots of good ones. They do the marathons on the 4th, labor day and thanksgiving too.

1. Talky Tina - did you ever look at a doll the same after that?

2. The one with Ida Lupino when she actually becomes part of the old movies she would watch over and over.

3. The one with Agnes Moorehead attacked by the little spacemen that turned out to be from earth.

4. The one with the spaceship crash that the men thought was on another planet and after one kills the other two, he discovers he is in Nevada.

5. Most favorite: Pitch of a lifetime - when the peddler saves the little girl by distracting Mr. Death by making the "pitch of a lifetime", and then follows him down the street on the way to heaven.

6. William Shatner and the goblin on the plane wing.

7. William Shatner and the fortune telling machine in the diner.

8. The one with the old lady who gets the phone call from her dead fiance

9. The one where Burgess Meredith survives a nuclear war, finds the remnants of a library and can read all he wants and then breaks his glasses

Dang - I could name them all. I adore that show! I even have a companion book with the backgrounds of the stories. Richard Matheson wrote many stories for the series, and he wrote "I Am Legend".

No matter how many times I see the episodes, I never tire of them!

That's awesome Mistie! I really liked those episodes too! Shatner was awesome in the airplane episode. I have to say though, that I thought John Lithgow's performance was better on the "Twilight Zone-the movie". He was awesome in that!

I really like the newer episodes that aired a few years ago too. I bought the dvd collection, and actually busted it out today. I just got done watching 4 episodes. Very cool!
