I haven't heard this for a while, and stumbled on it tonight. It's been buried DEEP in my hard drive since I got it, but when I heard it I thought you might like to hear it! It's Starship's singer singing the song. I think he's amazing on the vocals (MUCH better than Chalfant IMHO), but there are things musically that have me going WTF???

Neal would probably shit his pants if he heard what they did to his guitar parts of the song!

If you haven't heard this, you've GOTTA hear it! Mickey is AWESOME!!!

The song is total bubblegum, but Mickey sounds great, as usual.

I LOVED his vocals on this, and I'd really enjoy a Journey cover's album with him. Didn't care too much for Chalfant's, but I'd buy one if Mickey released it (with GOOD musicianship!). He would have been a great fit with the band vocally, but with his age and the fact that he'd have to tune down a couple of notes, I doubt it would have lasted long.

Cool to hear this tune either way!

Hey GIJ, thanks for the link.
It was ok, reminds me of when Deen does DSB. The music was pretty bland. It sounded, well, Starshiperish. They built that city!
In order here's the versions I like best of DSB.
Perry
Pineda
Cartman

I've always thought MT would have been an excellent replacement for SP back in the day.

I've always been a big Starship/Mickey fan, but Mickey doesn't do justice to the Perry stuff. Arnel is the first person that I have ever heard even come close.

Doppelgangers are a dime a dozen.....and NONE come close to the original. Nor should they. Nor should 'THEY' want someone like that. The guys need to grow up. Especially Frig and Fro.

It would have worked in '84...I'm sure of it.

Mickey's work on the Arrival cuts on Over the Edge was excellent in my opinion. I like his voice a lot.

Ok, that was... odd. Thanks for posting it, it's cool to have in my collection as a curiosity if nothing else. But ya know the way critics BITD called Journey "faceless" or "generic" or "anonymous" or "corporate" or whatever? Well, if they had sounded like that, those descriptions would have been justified...

A number of tracks on that album were written by Schon and Jack Blades or by Friga. They were from the Arrival sessions, but did not make the cut.
"One World" and "Surrender" were written by Schon/Blades (they share credits on "Higher Place" on Arrival, for one).
"Eyes Wide Open" was written by Friga.
Mickey Thomas must not be a very good songwriter. He doesn't have a single credit out of 10 tracks.

The Brits on here will know what I mean when I say, his vocal is ok but the style is just like a Club singer on this.
And the backing?
I've heard better karaoke tracks posted up by MR forum members when they have been singing for us.
I'm not very up on Starship so is this the guy on "We Built This City?"

*edit*
I have to agree about Neal darling soiling his BVD's over the guitar part. EEK. but all in all not a bad song.
