The Mars Volta

just starting that genre. i think they have youtube. they'll be at the Austin City limits Music Festival in Oct this year.

1st of all, define "usual musical genre". that's tuff for some of us.

The Mars Volta is a band I haven't really tried to get into yet even though many people think I'd like them, based on some of my other favorite bands.. maybe I should sometime.

i think it is more about the drummer--from my understanding. but the singer is a wild man. i dunno much about them yet.

Jeff's show in San Francisico last weekend was a prog rock festival, the band before him was ENCHANT. they were really good. you'd have liked that.

Picture I took when I saw him this past January - it was an amazing show, and I paid $250 for a seat in the 8th row center.

He is an excellent showman and his voice is definitely up there with Perry's. Both their voices send chills up the spine.

various '70s and '80s light pop that would have gotten me laughed out of high school back in the day.

for example, the other day I pulled into the driveway and sat in the car singing along to Olivia Newton-John's "Twist of Fate" till it was over. my wife caught me and said "Oh, yeah. You're a fag." she says the same thing when I sing along to Rupert Holmes or Abba or Duran Duran or Backstreet Boys or Mariah Carey or whatever.

BITD my favorites were Journey, Asia, GTR, Foreigner, Van Halen, Genesis, Billy Joel, like that, but I've always been a sucker for bubblegum and sappy love songs when I was alone in the car...

What category do Mr. Mister and Glass Tiger fall into?

I can't think of anything I listen to that I would really consider a guilty pleasure just because I like so many different styles. Now if I happened to like one of the boy bands or something like that, then I would CONSIDER feeling guilty.

wow. i'm changing my screen name to Ms.ProgRocker. i think i've been converted. the opening band for JSS last weekend in SF was ENCHANT. and boy did they. we were all blown away. they made it a pleasure to wait for JSS. well..almost. but at least they didn't inhale vigorously like some of the others we have endured in years past.
