heard "Change for the Better" on radio for first time while driving through Western SD earlier this week returning from a driving trip via classic rock station i think the frequency was 93.3?? The station was touting here is NEW JOURNEY... That song kicks on radio better than the CD---why is that---some songs you feel it on radio and others you go what?? Seperate ways on radio is the same way... just sounds better... BTW the BADLANDS, CRAZY HORSE (will be) and MT RUSHMORE are amazing treasures...

Because you know thousands of others are listening with you. Or in South Dakota, a couple dozen. Just kidding, Ang.

As a whole the new album is getting played less and less in my house...and soon I doubt I'll play it much at all. But Change For The Better is the exception. Great tune....and it feels like Journey are doing something a bit different here.

Radio adds a substantial amount of "compression" to the music which really makes it seem "in your face" compared to the less compressed cd versions. Most songs have 2 versions, 1 for the home market (usually somewhat compressed as well) and a version for radio which is not as compressed so radio stations can add their compression to the broadcast. That's also why alot of those news voices sound so clear, loud, etc, they also add compression. Compression btw, makes the lows louded and the louds softer. Effectively removing alot of the dynamics. ;) Alot of music lovers prefer older recordings, because you could hear the air, they had more "room" in them, etc.

I'm glad that many radio stations are waking up to the fact and realizing that Revelation is actually a very good record. Angie, from the tone of your posts lately, I assume you're not feeling it yet? What format is your radio station again, BTW?

My opinion probably won't matter since I'm not a die hard, but I like the studio disc. To see a veteran band put out new music is always encouraging (Hear that Triumph?). The other 2 discs in the package were just curiosities to me for the most part. The re-recordings, well even I have all of those songs. My thought is that it was nice of them to include it but not necessary. Then again, since I read they are counting it as a double CD for 10 bucks it's a way to get a gold record even though we all paid the price of less than a single CD. The DVD was a nice addition to see what the band are like now, but way too short. Then again, it was thrown in for free so that's hard to argue with. I got my money's worth.

Classic rock. Honestly, the only song I've heard is Never Walk Away. The record company hasn't sent us the whole disc(that I've seen anyway, my pd may have the whole thing) and I'm not giving Walmart my money.

I have always maintained that Change for the Better is a slamming song with HUGE potential. There are 2-4 songs on that disc that are stunning. There are also 2-4 songs on that disc that are fucking putrid....and there's 1 song on that disc that should have never been redone...

However, my problem with Revelations is not the new material, but the retreads. That's where this band has driven the last nail into it's coffin...The retread tracks, in my eyes, destroys what little credibility and stature the once great band had in my eyes. With that disc, they *instantly* became no more than a tribute band to me. A useless and downright disgraceful thing to do.....and what makes it worse is that it killed any chance of Arnel escaping from Perry's shadow, dispite the fact that Perry hasn't been involved in this band for 10-25 years (depending on your perspective)...

However, the new songs on the new revelations disc, on their own, were valid tunes....just some were good, some were shit...

Aren't you a little over dramatic? What songs would you consider "fucking putrid" (in your words) on Revelation? IMO, there's not one bad song on disc 1 and is every bit as good as anything Journey's done since the Escape/Frontiers era.

As far as the "re-treads" as you call them, it's been stated that the band was hesitant to do this, but it was done at WalMart's request to seal the deal, so to speak. AS far as the re-records go, I have mixed feelings about it myself, but on a positive note, it does give the curious listener a chance to hear how Arnel stacks up on the classics. He is afterall, the LEAD SINGER of Journey.
