That wouldn't be a bad final total for a 6th week. Anything above 15,000 at this point is a monstrous total. I'm starting to think double Platinum is a good possibility.

Remember, 'Revelation' only needs 16,574 sales per week, from this week through the end of the US tour, to reach platinum.

The interesting figures for me will be next week onward, after Journey gets a week of concerts under its belt. I speculate that a number of the purchases will come 1-2 weeks after someone has seen the concert, just based on the lag between seeing the concert and buying the CD. Also, some of the sales will be registered in the week after someone has seen the concert, because of the reporting gap (sees the concert on Sunday, buys the CD on Wednesday -- it's counted in the following week's sales).

August sales (into early September) will be interesting because there are some big, big venues, all lined-up in a row. The Cleveland and Cincinnati shows in early September will be sold out (19,200 and 20,500 seats, respectively), absolutely no doubt. Journey could even add a Columbus show at the Columbus Crew (pro soccer) stadium and sell that out too at this point. The Chicago show is a 28,000-seat mega-amphitheatre. And -- here's where Journey's website needs to be corrected -- in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Journey is playing the Hersheypark Stadium, not the Pavilion. The Stadium is a mega-amphitheatre, holding 30,000. (Prediction: sold out.) The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Indianapolis holds 24,000. (Prediction: sold out -- sure bet.)

The point is: there's a lot of seats that will be filled at these venues, and a lot of CDs sold in the days and weeks following those concerts ......

This is an outstanding comment. Turning "Airplay" into "Air Supply" is really witty. Great work, amigo. 8)

No, it wasn't. I think sw2 has an entire dimension different from ours that resides only in his mind. And there was a gay band called "Airplay" in it.

I hear AATY all the time on our adult contemp. station. And with the US tour just getting started think of how many more copies they will sell from the "casual" fan who happens to go to the show and loves it!!!

are they opening all these seats? last time with def leppard, initially 28-32, 5-1 stands and
H-L floors were not available. though they changed the sitting a week later. they probably opened new seats as the ticket sales picks up. i hope they gonna do it like that in case theyre not opening all areas...

I got a phone call the other day from one of my Filipina/American friends and she was pissed cause she went all the way to Wally-World on her lunch break for the album and they were sold out. I told her that if she gives me a nice massage, I'd give her one of mine, since I bought up a few at once when I was there. She didn't say she would, but I got to tell you, she's really thinking about it though.

Anyways what sucks is they didn't make enough copies of this album in time. You say they need to sell 16K per week, I doubt that Wally-World's going to be making them regularily. They may do a run here and there but I don't see that place being punctual or regular with the manufacturing of these and that may cost Journey something pretty nice. I'd be getting on the horn if I was Journey and telling those fuckers to start cranking out the goods or else.

The original print of the record was supposed to be a million. They distributed them evenly and now have to adjust is all. Some stores are selling better than others. I was at two supercenters on one day and just wandered back to look and one location had about 10 copies remaining and the second had like 200. Less than 5 miles apart.

If a 1,000 cd's get sold at Target, Bestbuy and Amazon do they not get counted since they're imports and not sold by Walmart?

some points
unless somethings has changed
wal mart is not printing cds, they buy them from journey
any outsides sales would not count in riaa numbers because they would be import copies and counted in that countries sales
16,000 cds a week is going to be tough to do
very rarely do cds pick up sales with such a big initial push.
most journey fans alread have it, so its up to casual fans to get on the band wagon
sales should level off or drop each week.
i wouldnt expect it to reach 2x platinum for awhile.

308,186 albums sold x 2 CDs/album = 616,372 units sold (per RIAA standards)
