Why isn't journey in The RockN Roll hall of fame?

If you check out the list of people who have made it it makes you wonder....Is it because they aren't considered rock n roll?Is it because of the melodic rock stamp they have ?Honestly they've sold over 70 million and counting and have been around the block quit a few times what gives?

Most here agrees they should be there, as they've pioneered many things in their genre, which is what the place is supposed to recognize. Most here people also agree that the RnR HOF is ruled by politics and is a sham.

RRHOF is for critic's bands...Journey was never loved by Rock critics....which is also why KISS isn't in yet...

It's because they aren't a critical darling, probably. Jann Wenner is the head of it, IIRC correctly, and Rolling Stone has a problem with many of these bands.

We've had these debates for years on the Chicago forums. That band has had 40 songs in the top forty, platinum albums going back to the sixties and nearly 130 million albums sold. Hendrix originally gave the band their start as an opening act because he was so impressed with guitarist Terry Kath. They also pionered (with Blood Sweat and Tears and Weather Report) the use of horns in rock (away from the four piece approach popularized by the Beatles).

But Rolling Stone always hated Chicago so they've never been nominated. And they've been eligible for 16 years.

Well if that's the case then it really doesn't matter if they make it or not...If it's a who you know thing then how much weight does it really have?

look at the inductees, its reaally a pop music hall of fame
the place is a joke, most of the displays are a joke
i spent a few days there for a live broadcast
the curator tells use he has kiss's love gun era stage in storage
meanwhile 15 years later the u2 stage is still up, they have a weezer display
more nirvana then the beatles, madonna run dmc the jackson 5 displays give me a break.
just go to a HRC and save the money its the same thing.

Hopefully with (maybe) Heart and Van Halen in, the doors will open a little wider for Journey, Chicago, Rush, Styx, Genesis, and so on.

Genesis - Yes

Chicago - Yes

Rush - should, but is a long shot

Styx and Journey - don't wait for that train.

I got no probs with who has made it in, just I have issues with some not in.

Oh, I've got some issues with who's in. Especially when compared to who's out.

Dave Clark Five, The Sex Pistols, Madonna, and Grandmaster Flash vs. Journey, KISS, Rush, Boston, and Chicago?

Come now.

Like her or not...Madonna deserves to be in there....Grandmaster Flash....hmmmm...Sex Pistols? NO! Dave Clark Five? Ask Tom from Maui about them.

KISS ? HELL YES!

And if I had it my way ProgMan, I'd make sure Dream Theater and Marillion are in there too...Marillion post Fish era.

Dream Theater and Queensryche should be locks when their time comes but they will NEVER see the HoF without paid admission. :(

Hey now, both eras of Marillion are HoF caliber in my eyes. Magical albums were created under both H and Fish.. VERY magical albums.

And check this out... Radiohead have mentioned Marillion as an influence. Friggin' Radiohead. The world's most popular and one of the most critically acclaimed bands, Radio freakin' Head, list Marillion as inspiration. Take that for what you will.

KISS was banging cheerleaders while Grandmaster flash was still in diapers. they really need to reevaluate who gets in. and yes, Journey should be there too. While we are on the subject, Is Sabbath in?

Yes, Sabbath is in. Thank God a metal/prog band is in. That's rare.

It is statements like this that stick in my craw...Grandmaster Flash(aka Joseph Saddler) was an early pioneer of Hip-hop. If you don't think he should be in the Hall, then neither should BB King, Miles Davis, or anyone else who doesn't fit your cookie-cutter definition of ROCK n ROLL.....

BTW, Grandmaster Flash was born in 1958, so I doubt he was still in diapers when KISS was banging cheerleaders.....

Grandmaster Flash would be a GREAT fit for the "POP MUSIC" or "MUSIC" hall of fame, no question.

But, the HOF is devoted to ROCK AND ROLL, or supposedly.

B.B. King and Miles Davis were big influences on lots of rock musicians, so their place in the Hall is unquestionable. The only rock G.F. influenced, is probably something like Rage Against the Machine.

I think the reason Journey is not in the R N' R Hall of Fame is because of the Corporate Rock label they were branded with; which is BS. They deserve to be in there but I don't know if they ever will. JMO :) One can only hope. Kiss should have been in there years ago.

In my opinion ANY major label band is "corporate rock." Put out an album, make bank, go on big tours, pull in coin, get backed by the industry.... you're corporate. So in other words, it shouldn't matter.

KISS is MAJORLY influential and unique.. may not be the best instrumentalists ever but ask alot of people between the ages of 30 and 50 who one of their first favorite rock bands were and chances are they'd give some props to KISS.

I got interested in KISS from their Album Art, as a 6-year old browsing around in Zayre. Ken Kelly was the shit. LOVE GUN and DESTROYER knocked me out as a child.

Their music.....MEH.....

On a scale of 1-10....their talent is a 4.

Let me say i am thrilled that my fave band got in this year.DC5 They should have been in there last year. And was pulled out to add Grandmaster Flash who ever that is.If it had been last year then Mike Smith would have been able to be there. He passed away in Feb of this year. The beatles was good but i loved the DC5 the best.Still do that will never change.
