Have any of you heard of this band? Anyways, I was in a recording Studio with my rock band yesterday "The Barbershop" in Lake Hopatcong NJ. Me and my friend Andrew talked to the lead singer of the band, as he showed us his Bands music video. We talked about Musical influences, and I told him I'm into high tenor singing as myself, and that Perry is one of my influences. And He Said Perry is awesome . Just thought I'd spread the news. I've heard of the name Symphony X but I dont know where I've heard them from or how big they are. All I know is that they've opened up for Dream Theater for this past year.

Symphony X is an incredible band. Their album "The New Mythology Suite" is my favorite of theirs.

ahh I see. He was a really nice guy. He joked and said that the music scene is getting tired. And he said "Come on guys" as if we were the new generation. Really down to earth guy. Incredible vocalist too!

Yeh there a great band. Interestingly enough, the guy who mixed one of their albums does work for AngelMilk.

I *love* Russell Allen's voice! I have his solo album "Atomic Soul" and have been a huge fan of the Allen-Lande project. Because of that, I acquired all of the Symphony X discography, too. Missed them when they came through NYC last, but I hope to get a chance again soon.
Odd that you would run into him in Lake Hopatcong! Is Russell from the Tri-State area?
Debbie
Edit: I edited my "obsession" below (it was about time anyway) to reflect Russell Allen in action (well, vocally at least

).

Apparently he's from California. But The place I recorded at is pretty well known, atleast the main engineer. He's worked with sound garden madonna, you name it he's worked with them.

Really tight band, if a bit repetitive. Kinda like Yngwie Malmsteen meets Dream Theater. Very good musicians, sometimes underwhelming songwriters. A blast (and LOUD) to see live. That's really cool you met Russell. It doesn't surprise me he was down to earth - I'm pretty sure those guys all worked second jobs as blue collar workers, guitar teachers etc when the band was coming up - they might even still do that, not sure.

Agreed.. I'm not a huge fan but I enjoy the song "The Odyssey" immensely.
I need to get into more of their material, considering they're right down my alley.... even though they over-shred a bit too much for my taste.

Terrific band. Definitely worth checking out if you've never heard them. Russell Allen's solo album and the two Allen/Lande CDs are out of this world, as well.
