Vocal Strain starting to show early? (Apparently Not!)

Surely there's distortion and poor sampling in the YouTube clips off San Diego,
but many believe they hear hoarseness, from Never Walk Away onward.
Can those who were actually there confirm, deny or clarify?
I'm just a little concerned.
Thanks.

He had another show tonight. This is where it actually starts to get tough. He has a few stretches coming up with 3 shows on consecutive nights. I thought I heard a little strain during SIL but I have a coworker who went to the Irvine show so I'll find out in the morning how he sounded. The guy saw him in Vegas so he should be able to tell if it sounds rougher.

It's only a matter of time (months, maybe 1 or 2 years at the most) and that's what you get singing "the Voice's" legacy, you burn out like the rest of them. Steve Perry started writing and performing these songs at the highest level at a much younger age than Steve Augeri & Arnel Pineda, and he had alot more gas in the tank, perhaps the fact that he was younger and full of beans. Stever Perry simply, was a superior vocalist, and not in only a few areas, but in all aspects.
And I would say Steve Augeri did an amazing job as well. But the ironman award goes to Perry.

SP is no ironman. he's just like any other singer that gets his throat burned up for singing too much. that's a fact.

I hope this isn't true.
He'll be so eager to do well that he maybe isn't pacing himself. But that comes with experience. I know he's been singing for years, but not on this scale.
Or maybe he is starting with a cold - the singer's enemy. And those songs are punishing on the old vocal chords. More so with a cold.

I thought I heard something in his lower register. Still sounds good on the high stuff, though.

Geezus...can't a person have an off night??? Maybe the dry air was getting to him that night or maybe he caught a bit of a cold or something.
Why must everyone always look for some reason why Arnel is going to fail? People are always looking at things with gloom and doom rather than seek a more normal explanation.
Give the man a break.

Totally agree that a person can have an off-night.
Personally, I'm simply worried for the guy. This is not a slam on Arnel, not a comparison to Perry or anything like that. That's a murderous catalogue to sing every sing and has now destoyed the voices of two killer singers.
Arnel is a fantastic singer and I hope his ideally long career isn't cut short by some murderous catalogue/touring schedule combination.

I cringe everytime I see him hug a fan. There's wisdom in taking precautions. Viruses are more virulent these days. Changes in climate conditions and the stress of touring plus that "KILLER" repertoire will surely result in some "off nights."
I know there are some around here just eagerly waiting to pounce on his downfall so they can wag their fingers at Neal & Co. and say "KARMA!"
But please, spare Arnel the bad vibes. Let him have his time in the sun. What will happen will happen-- let's enjoy his wonderful contribution to the music while its HERE.

right on the money. the ironman stuff is purely absurd !
this is not a contest of who can last longer on singing but rather a sentiment on preserving and taking care of a singer, not killing him. I wonder why some people are so ass about who's better. purely child stuff.

I hope he's ok.
But if he is struggling a bit for whatever reason, I hope he speaks out and makes sure he is allowed the appropriate rest he needs to nurture his precious instrument.
You'd think tour arrangers would have realised by now that singers need more time between shows than band members who don't sing.
We've had rock music tours for enough years now for them to work that one out.
When they plan these things they should plan a few days off between each gig.
The travelling from city to city, country to country may be a break from actual shows, but travelling is still tiring. So it's time they planned accordingly IMO.

That sounds like we heard the same thing.
I hope it's just the weather.
Anyone checking them out live, these next few dates, please let us know how 'nel is sounding.
Thanks.

Exactly ...people may finally understand what a job perry actually was doing..and that's why there's a legacy ,and that's why he was known as "The Voice"...sure he can be imitated...but never duplicated...no hit on arnel but he only sang a few journey songs anight now that he has to tackle the dirty dozen he's definetly has his work cut out for him...I wonder what Augeri would say about this?

Yes, yes, yes.
His coming to the band spurred this huge comeback they've GOT to preserve him.
Pineda, speak up, get CastroHulkHair to help out, pull out all the stops to keep this guy healthy.

Hhm, could be yet another reason why the band re-recorded all the classics. When AP's voice falters, they have instant reinforcement that's already been mixed & polished. The crowds will hear exactly what they're hearing on the record...and know one will know the difference. Problem solved.

He probably had an off night. One thing to consider is that when you are from another country and travel abroad you becomes exposed to many allergens and bacteria that you do not encounter at home. That chances for him having colds, allergies and other minor annoyances are kind of high. I know quite a few people that have visited Europe and either got sick there or right after they came back. Give him time before saying he is already getting worn out. It could be a number of factors.
Anyone have an example of this "issue"?

No one's saying he sounds bad there. He sounds pretty good but his voice does crack a bit in the lower register if you listen.

you might be correct!!! this might also be the reason why Deen wont accept that job. for some reason he cant sing and drums every song. being a Journey frontman (history) is expendable....

Aside from Gregg Rolie and Steve Smith, I can't think of any other guys who came out of the Journey organization without some sort of canker on their career or the instrument. Not a whole lot of happy endings with that group. That being said, I'm sure Arnel still has a whole lot of gas left in the tank.

You trying to say we are dirty over here?
Seriously, when sports stars are going to compete in major sporting events abroad [soccer World Cup, Olympic Games etc] they always fly out to that country ages before the event to acclimatise.
A singer in a touring rock band does not have that same privilege.

I'm saying nothing about Deen's hair.
Stevew2 says Deen is trying to copy mine.
