About 30 miles from San Bernardino. It's all over the news now. CNN too.

If I heard them right they said it was so rough because it was a shallow earthquake.

CNN says it was a 5.8.

Crap, yeah! hate them! I was lying on the couch watching the History channel about how the Earth began and they were just saying in a dramatic way, "the Mattehorn is the result of two continents colliding"...and, bang the house starts shaking. Jumped into the doorway and prayed my kids at school were okay.

Being on the 8th floor here in Glendale, it felt worse than it was. We sent some people home that live in Chino just to make sure that nothing is broken. Water lines tend to break during these shallow quakes, so best to make sure they don't have a puddle in their house when they get home.

Indy, just heard from Cindi......she said it wasn't quite an E ticket ride , but her assistant freaked out.

My wife freaked out...I just drove to her job in West LA, she's never been in one before. I was pulling people out of houses during the Northridge quake, so I knew what to expect...but the family, not so much! I haven't been home yet, and my kids are at Raging Waters today - just 10 miles away! But everyone is fine, now let's hope my studio is intact once I get home. Cell coverage here will be awful for awhile. E

Man, that'd be scary! Give me a good old tornado any day!

I here you, I was in an Air Rescue/SOPS unit when a 7.8 Quake hit Baguio City in the Philippines. Retrieving people form the Collapsed hotels was one of the most gutwrenching things I ever had to do in my life.

See I'm too much of a pussy to go THAT far. Good for you!

I've lived through both sort of- the tornado didn't hit our house but one of worst outbreaks- April 1974 in KY- destroyed lots around us. I've felt a 5.2 quake in KY (centered near West Salem, IL.) back in April that was- hair raising. It was sort of a rolling, shuddering thing. Hope everyone is safe.

Wasn't that strange? I wrote it last night and so I was thinking about when the next one would be! I get freaked 'cuz every time the Scientist from Cal Tech is talking on the News every time there is a sizable quake & she always mentions the BIG ONE yet to come... The Northridge quake (just a few miles away) felt like forever before it stopped and the aftershocks were very, very strong and there were tons...I can remember hearing/feeling the earth rumbling and getting closer & I'd say, "here comes another aftershock" and then the house would rattle. Our home didn't suffer damage (except a leaning cinderblock wall), but we were without water/power for a week. There's been lots of quakes that I've felt - last year there was one that felt like the house jumped with a thud. Once I was sitting with a glass of water on the side table next to me and I saw the water swaying...I knew it was a quake, but I was just heading out to work and didn't turn on the news to see where it was centered. I got to work and heard all the commotion about the quake in San Francisco...the supervisor's brother in law & young daughter were on the bridge that collapsed, and no one was hearing from him - they did survive but witnessed the horror in front of him. He said that it it weren't for his preschooler having a tantrum and keeping him longer at the school when he picked her up then they wouldn't have survived.

i just got out of the shower when it hit... umm... doh! one of our cats came running into the bathroom from the living room... now she won't come out of the bedroom. still looking for my other cat. i'm guessing he's hiding behind the tv. nothing is getting him out of hiding... not even the shaking of treats!!

the only thing i noticed that had fallen over was our 3 pez heads... charlie brown, pepperment patty & mike mod... i mean bugs bunny. hehehee.

hope everyone is okay. maybe this should remind us to load up on bottled water & other things needed in case of an emergency.

That story about your supervisor's family -wow.

We feel little quakes here and there but nothing like today. The last quake here - prior to today's - that I felt was like the one you described. It was like the house jumped. That was it real quick. Not today's.

I wonder how often this happens at night and wakes you up? You certainly can't get back to sleep after it, can you?

I've never felt the earth move so I can't imagine how really strange and scary it must feel.

The Northridge and the Yucca Valley quakes were big and those woke me up. No sleeping after those. Probably smaller ones wake a person but maybe you don't realize that is what woke you?!

It is very strange.
