The Silver Lining

Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have been the targets of much criticism following their decision to proceed forward as Journey, absent Steve Perry.

Likewise, Steve Perry has been criticized by many for his decision to not return to the band.

I must admit that I have been disappointed with all of them over the past 20+ years; primarily because I enjoyed their excellent music and like many others, was starved for more!

But it suddenly struck me last night, as I was jogging with my ipod on shuffle, that I have been exposed to musicians and enjoy music, which I would most likely have never been exposed to otherwise.

For example:

1. Gregg Rolie (Gringo)
2. The Storm's 2 CD's
3. Bad English's 2 CD's
4. Steve Perry's solo work (Street Talk, FTLOSM and possibly more someday)
5. Steve Augeri and his contributions to Arrival, Red 13 & Generations
6. Tall Stories debut album and upcoming release
7. Jeff Scott Soto's work, including Lost in Translation and his upcoming release
8. Deen Castronovo's talents as both drummer and vocalist

These are all pieces of the, sometimes elusive, Silver Lining emanating from the dark cloud which has hovered over Journey for far too long.

They say wisdom comes with age...maybe they're right.

Suddenly, I'm not so disappointed anymore!

I concur with MG - great post. And I would never have found either SA or JSS not for Journey. And I would never have found Journey without SP, so it all comes down to his VOICE!

:D

Wouldn't be a bad title either, "More Someday".
