Arnel was friggin' incredible tonight!

Postby jrnyjetster » Fri Aug 01, 2008 2:23 pm

Holy shit, just getting home from the West Palm show tonight..Arnel was spectacular...the band was on fire! Minor complaint, they could have thrown in another Revelation song, because the concert ended at 10:50p. Deen was tthe only one who showed up at the ILAA VIP thing, so I was slightly pissed about that, since the reason I spent my hard earned money on 2 5 star tickets was because I thought the whole band would show up at the meet and greet, as advertised. No such luck, and I do appreciate Deen's courtesy, but that's bullshit. I'm not complaining too much though, because I did get 3rd row seats front and center, right in front of Neal.

I'm glad the show was great and you had such good seats. Too bad about the m&g. :x That would piss me off too.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Just had that conversation with someone earlier... I could have SWORN that these were recently changed to guarantee a meet and greet with the whole band, but was just told tonight I was incorrect -- that it only guaranteed a meet and greet. That's a hell of a lot of money not to meet the whole band.

I was at the show and it was fantastic. I was worried about Arnel with all the talk about the length of the tour and the back to backs and the catalog but he totally delivered, even after a show in Tampa last night.

The venue has a capacity of close to 19,000. I don't know if it was sold out but it was very, very full. It's an outdoor amphitheater with several sections of seats under cover with a huge lawn section for general admission. I was in section 4 which is the second layer of reserved seats under cover.

The crowd was really into it, especially on Separate Ways, Faithfully and Any Way You Want it.

The new songs that I remember them playing (my memory sucks these days) were Wildest Dream, After all these years, Never Walk Away, and Change for the better.

BTW Heart rocked despite the fact that Nancy Wilson apparently had a bad cold. She could barely talk to introduce Ann much less sing. But I was really impressed with their musicianship and Ann's is a force of nature. The Who and Led Zeppelin covers were a nice touch.

I've always liked Cheap Trick and really enjoyed their vibe. They seem like the type of band that would be great to hear in a bar. Their audio set-up didn't seem right (too much high end not enough low end) but maybe I'm prejudiced from earlier reviews I've read.

The last thing I'll say is that judging from the sea of swaying arms during Faithfully I'd say pretty much the entire crowd was totally buying Arnel is the singer of Journey. I suspect that those new tunes they played are going to be staples on future tours as the Arnel legacy is built.

Oh, a few more things. Neal is a God as we all know. All respect to Deen, we're not worthy. I'd have loved to hear him sing lead on a song. The rendition of Mother Father on the DVD is awesome, I wish they had played that.

You should cut at least Arnel some slack, ILAA-wise.

I really shouldn't say.
Supposedly there's some bug starting to go around on-tour.
Dunno who else has supposedly been bitten, but it didn't
start with the Journey-folk.

Deen only showed for the Tampa M&G too. :?
Luckily we met most of them the day of and night before the show.

Maybe a trip to the 14-day disabled list is in order?
Is there anyone ready to be called up from the minor leagues?

That sucks about spending all that money on the M&G. Honestly, I wouldn't want to meet a band under those circumstances if I felt there were only there because they 'had' to be there. Sounds like DC enjoys them, but after watching the video of the recent m&g where Arnel was basically smothered, I can understand anyone's hesitancy to do them every single night over a long tour.

Glad you enjoyed the show. Looking forward to the midwest leg...

As I mentioned earlier, Nancy Wilson is definitely sick with a cold/flu because Ann Wilson said it. But Arnel could not be having any of sort of a bug last night.

He seemed to be ok when we met him Tuesday night but then again maybe he's keeping his distance so he doesn't catch anything.

I suggest you complain to Cain! ...not having M&G is his brainchild! :D
Please refer to my thread of June 25, 8:29 a.m entitled, "I believe Jon meant well but...."

Plus, Cain's idea is well-supported by some (or perhaps by most, I'm not really sure) people here at MR!
...which, is fine---as long as it's not overdone!

BTW, I'm just curious...why did they choose Deen to show up in the M&G---with the rest kept in "quarantine"?

Since Deens not singing anymore, he can use his voice for other duties like meet and greets to stay sharp in case Arnel blows a chord.

Yup, they roped me in and they didn't deliver the total package....plus it was HOTTER than a MOF'er yesterday afternoon and they threw us in this hot tent with NO air conditioning, it was miserable to say the least. We were all sweating like pigs. Very poor service, if you ask me. Trust me, I WILL NOT be doing the ILAA option EVER AGAIN. This left a bad taste in my mouth. The only good thing that came from this was the VIP parking and of course, excellent seats.
