Escape or Frontiers ?

Both of these recordings represent the "pinnacle" of Journey's commercial success in the 80's.

Which do think is the stronger work and WHY?

I'm gonna go with Frontiers, I think Cain had grown a little more comfortable in his position with band by then. I think the album shows greater maturity than Escape from the music and vocals. It's really a tough choice. I had Escape on 8track so it has sentimental value for me, but musically, Journey really shined with Frontiers.

I like to have it both ways. I love Escape's harder stuff. Enjoy the mid and slower stuff on Frontiers. Although both had a perfect mix in my opinion. Both of those albums represent the depth in writing, production and performance that I've missed with all other of the band's releases since.

Production-wise, I like "Escape" better. However, I have to give "Frontiers" the nod since it contains my favorite song, "Rubicon".

Escape is my choice.
It was the first Journey music I ever heard, and the first album of theirs that I bought.
It began my love affair with Journey music, and it was the first time I ever heard that voice which touches my soul and the first time I heard that guitar sound which lifts my spirit.
Escape was my first.
You always remember your first don't ya.

Frontiers really is a stunning piece of work.

Both are great but, Frontiers gets the "ever-so-slight" nod.

Some of NS's finest moments, IMO.

SP...well...performances like these are where "legends" are solidified!

I vote both! I like them for different reasons. I don't want to choose between two great albums. I just want to put on my headphones and enjoy!

I can't stand ROR with the exception of one track, "Why can't this night go on forever". That song really sounds like it should have been on Frontiers.

What?! Yuck. No it doesn't. That song is absolutely pure awesomeness and need not be keeping company with the likes of "Back Talk". In fact, it deserves its OWN album. :D

Frontiers. Only because I consider OTY and ATL part of that album.

Hey YOU! Quit ragging on Back Talk!

Who do you think you are, anyway!? Some sort of music critic?

All you Spoons are alike....

Plus WCTNGOF has a much different sound than that of Frontiers. Unbelievable song, but it definately was from the days of them playing around with the drum machine and synth centric.

I posted a stat awhile back that had Frontiers outseeling Escape worldwide 26 million to 19 million. I found that soemwhat shocking, but then realized Frontiers was marketed heavily in Asia. That's the only reason I could come up with for that disparity. Frontiers wins. haha.

If WCTNGOF had been on Frontiers, then Backtalk could have been cut and and put on another album, preferably an SP solo project (Against The Wall :P ).

Ditto. The remastered Frontiers with those 2 on wins out. But if I have to go with the original releases I'd probably say Escape.

Frontiers, although both albums are amazing. I loved Frontier's harder, edgier sound.

Gawd you're right, I love Liberty. That solidifies it. :D Mind you, could I bring Still They Ride over to Frontiers? All time favorite Journey song! :D

9 C batteries? You're gonna need to install a zipper to make sure nothing falls out when you're done.
