Sounds like it is going to be an excellent album, I am interested in hearing it. I am glad Brian is still wanting to write music, he is still a mastermind. Probably the greatest pop song writter in American history.

Is Van Dyke Parks doing lyrics again? God, I hope not...
Smile, while excellent musically, lyrically was incredibly lame. Brian needs to get with some good lyricists.

Eh. It's OK. He is a living legend, though - extremely influential.

listening now...
Brian's harmony arrangements are second to none. His instrumental arrangements are also great.
But his vocal phrasing on his verses is really clumsy and the lyrics... ugh. It's like a 12 year old kid wrote them. The lyrics are just too ... "mom and pop" for me. I just can't get into it. I've got Smile and the album before it, and try as I might, I can't get into them. It's like I'm listening to Potsie singing on Happy Days. Love the guy's music. Love the stuff he did with Beach Boys, but I can't 'get' his solo stuff. It's almost like I'm listening to a Broadway show about the 60s. The spoken word bits... are just so cheesy. It's strange, I can listen to a ton of Beach Boys stuff with similar lyrical content, but this stuff just doesn't work.
Sorry, I WANT to like it.
