Arnel's Story on Rated K

Just a mention of the usual bits (no need for translation then  ) at the 1:27-2:06 mark...a brief reference, but a fresh one (August 24 in Manila), so added publicity nevertheless. Rated K is a weekly primetime Sunday show hosted by Korina Sanchez.

OK, took time off the Single word thread (I'll be back Gb, S78, bjg76, et. al. LOL) and came up with this translation (pardon some literal nuances  ):

A station ID, start-0:08

"Pinagkakatiwalaan, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs. Panig sa katotohanan, panig sa bayan."
Trusted, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs. In the interest of truth, in the interest of the nation.

A greeting, 0:11-0:19

"Magandang gabi mga kapamilya mula Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao, at sa buong mundo kung saan tayo naaabot ng The Filipino Channel. Kumusta po kayo?..."
Good evening friends from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, and overseas--those reached by The Filipino Channel. How are you?...

On Arnel, 1:27-2:06

"Sa YouTube din nakita ng foreign rock band na Journey ang husay sa pag-awit ng Pinoy na si Arnel Pineda."
It was also through YouTube that Journey, a foreign rock band, noticed (Filipino) Arnel Pineda's singing skill.

"Naghahanap ang banda ng bagong bokalista noon."
The band was searching for a new vocalist then.

"Hawig na hawig kasi ang boses ni Arnel sa orihinal nilang lead singer kaya siya ang napili ng grupo."
Arnel's voice approximates that of their original  lead singer so he (Arnel) was chosen by the group.

"Patuloy pa rin sa paggawa ng pangalan si Arnel kasama ang bandang Journey."
Arnel goes on building a name for himself together with Journey.

"Ilan lamang si Arnel at Charice na nakilala sa buong mundo dahil sa Internet."
Arnel and Charice are but a few of those who became popular worldwide through the Internet.

The episode bordered on things "Instant," instant kasikatan (popularity) in Arnel's case. (BTW, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are the three major divisions of the country.)

Haven't tracked her in a while. The YT clip owner seems to be a big fan of hers though...the host of related links conveniently provided might be of help.

The amazing part of this whole thing to me is how Arnel is now extremely popular in the Philippines. He's just the same vocalist as he ever was before and after all this happened with Journey, but none of these famous people in the Philippines ever gave a rat's ass about Arnel then. Now those retarded love song singers and celebrities who run their own talk show in the Philippines will gush to have AP on their shows now, only cause they want their own ratings to go up by having him on their show. Sort of like Hillary Clinton. A month or so ago she hated Obama and all his supporters with a passion. But now since she got her ass kicked in, she's up in front of everyone ordering unity between her group and his. Horse shit is what I say. Not about the unity issue, but with Hillary ordering it now. If she was a good person, she would have been preaching and practicing unity long before she lost!

Personally, I think Arnel should have hired someone he has known for years to create a show and for Arnel to be on that one show only. One of the Zoo band members or one of Arnel's younger brothers could have done that. Fuck all the rest of those famous SOB who wouldn't get him on their shows all the fucking years before.

Reality check...sad but, to a certain extent, true.

It's interesting entertaining how things could have ended up so far had Arnel taken such course.

Dude please don't disrespect other Pinoy singers just because they are not, in your view, as talented as Arnel. Calling them names is uncalled for. Bear in mind that when Arnel's career with Journey is over, his fall back will be a showbiz career in the Philippines. These singers could make or break Arnel's chances there because of the influence that they have with the entertainment bigwigs. Also, I am telling you that at this point, having Arnel on their show does not make that much a dent on their ratings. At this early stage of Arnel's career, it's Arnel benefiting from exposures by appearing on these TV shows. You have been away from the Philippines for a long time and based on your story, you are only in contact with people who know Arnel. Of course they will tell you that he is massively known there. I am however in contact with friends from all walks of life and they barely know Arnel. Even the former assistant entertainment editor of a major newspaper barely knows Arnel. Let me spell it out again, Arnel isn't that famous yet in the Philippines. That is going to change, I'm sure but it's not helping if his fans are being smug about his fame when it isn't even there yet!

I'm entitled to my opinion dude! And I say the vast majority of them stink....period. Watching some of those vids with that individual "Martin" had the same effect on me as listening to rap or country, I just wanted to go out and break something real bad, not to mention his singing voice and live performance gave me a really bad case of gas for the rest of the evening.

As someone posted earlier, Death Angel went through the exact same thing cause they didn't "conform" to the music over there. And no, I have not talked to Arnel via third party.....ever. If you think I just jumped on the Arnel bandwaggon because he's with Journey now, then your seriously mistaken. If someone comes along better, I can agree to that. I don't care for Arnel just because of what he's doing now. It goes way beyond that. I care for him because I knew him years ago, during the most important time of my life. And that goes for all the members of AMO band and a few others outside of the band who I was in contact with over there in the Philippines during those years too. So get it straight, I don't base my own likes and dislikes on what Arnel was, has or is doing! Even if Arnel was never in Journey, I'd still dislike those bland and boring love songs that are presented to the audience equally as bad over there.

Yeah, and tell me I don't know a thing about the crab mentality that's going on over there!

Noble point, mdae...I'm with you in essence. Rest assured SH though that I dig your "acidity" as a figurative effort to put your thoughts across...rants (on legitimate issues) within the context of a message board, and not personal "attacks." :)

Sure you are entitled to your opinion the same way that I am entitled to mine. My point is, we can all be Arnel fans without being disrespectful to other artists . Their singing of love songs is a result of them giving what the Filipino people want. Even Arnel would sing love songs back then because he knows that his audience wanted those kinds of songs.

Alas "crab mentality" do still exist there. You know what I've noticed recently though? You get thrown the "crab mentality" card when you voice out a dissenting opinion against somebody perceived as successful.

Just Curious, did Death Angel ever make it on shows in the Philippines back when they were tearing up the charts and MTV here in the states? For an asian-american act, I don't think any group of asian decent has been as successful as they were here in the states. When ever I was in the RP, There was nary a peep about them, even though the Japanese music shows were giving them a lot ofcoverage and they were regulars every weekend on headbangers ball, here in America.

Indeed they are practically never heard of here.

I didn't hear about them in the Philippines from anyone I knew, not to say that they weren't known there, but they just were not mentioned at all in the Philippines. However, I met a guy in Japan who became my friend, he was a Los Angeles native and he had a bunch of their music in his collection at that time.

They had two HUGE tours in Japan, but like many other heavy metal acts, they became a victim of their own success and the Grunge movement that saturated the music scene in the early 90's

We got married recently during one of our many trips to Japan. Some time later, I then noticed my signature had the GF and so I wanted to update it so it would be accurate.

I remember being in PI more than 10 yrs ago seeing billboard size graffiti of Death Angel on the side of tall building on my way home, and the driver of the jeep had DA's "A room with a view" playing. I thought that was super cool and that they're going to be big there...
