OT: Okay...Which One Of You Lives In This Market...Video

Thank god we don't have jackass news reporters like this in Boston. I've always despised cell phones (must be the old man in me), but this takes it to a whole new level. I thought it was bad enough when idiots walked around making me listen to their "Nextel" conversations (like I give a shit), and now we have tv anchors answering their cell phones on live tv! Unreal! Do any of our MR friends recognize any of these tv personalities as being from your home market?

Holy shit... that's Channel 12 out of Winston-Salem, NC. Local station to my hometown.

Thanks, J4B.

Does Winston Salem even have local affiliates for each of the "Big 3" or is there one in High Point and one in Greensboro?

You can even see at the end of the clip when they show the weather map my hometown on there. Holey socks... how embarassing.

Sorry... lol... Winston-Salem was one of the two NBC stations we could pick up back home... WXII (Winston) and WSLS (Roanoke). WSLS had one of their meterologists end up with nudie pics on MySpace that made local scandal in the Summer of '06 and then right before or after that the Chief meterologist got busted for narcotics... like crack or meth or something. *Shakes head*... we're hurting for people to put on TV down there.

After living in that hellhole state for 13 months, I should have guessed that it was NC. Sorry Rhi...I know it's not nice for me to feel that way about one's hometown, but the natives made me feel that way

In any event, I still can't believe that video. To think any news anchor would actually have their cell phone turned on (let alone, answer the damn thing) during a live newscast is beyond comprehension! Got to love those North Carolinians

ahh...well you were in the wrong area. Come to Raleigh--it's all transplants down here. Yankees probably outnumber the locals by a pretty decent margin by now, especially in certain areas.

btw...where did you get stuck in? Granted, things get done a bit differently down here than up north, but that's not necessarily a bad thing all the time. Never made it as far as Boston before (though probably will pass through there soon)...but not having to deal with northeast traffic on a daily basis is something I don't miss one bit.

btw...does sound pretty screwed up though. The other 49 states MUST have their fair share of idiots, right?!?!?

Two points...My comments about not being surprised that this happened in NC was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Sure...there are idiots, everywhere. The south certainly doesn't have a monopoly on that. I believe the south does have a monopoly on racism. I was honestly ashamed, after living in NC for over a year, that it is actually part of the United States. I heard more racial, derogatory terms said in casual conversation in the time I lived there than I did in almost 40 years of living in New England. Quite sad, actually. Anyway, even though there are indeed idiots everywhere, you would NEVER see a news anchor in a major media market answering their cell phone, during a live newscast. It simply would not ever happen!

I don't think it's just NC. Get in the deep south, and it's probably just as bad. As far as NC goes, in certain locations, that doesn't surprise me a bit. Durham is a prime example. Everybody else seemed floored with the Duke lacross scandal--didn't seem to surprise anybody down here. Racial tensions in Durham are as bad as anywhere I have EVER been. Putting a very elite university like Duke right in the middle of what was a big cigarette/tobacco area at one time--and now very low income, crime and drug-ridden housing, is just asking for trouble. The UNC murder that made national news this spring is the same thing, and there are plenty more incidents that didn't get out of this area. Simply put, it's a mess.

Racial tensions have always been high down here (big stuff back in the 60s with the sitins), and adding a large Hispanic influx in the last 10-15 years certainly hasn't helped ease the situation. I don't see it going away anytime soon either. As I said though, it's much worse in some parts than others.

well, I can only hope the person lost their job. Simply unacceptable, no matter which way you look at it.

First off, I'm a Virginian, so you're not insulting me at all dearest damn Yankee.
Secondly, we both lived in the Charlotte metro... trust me, I can't stand those locals sometimes, too.
Thirdly, and finally... she should be reprimanded for that... how unprofessional! And Winston-Salem/Triad/Etc isn't that small of a market, really! My radio station was marketed to the WS/GSO/High Point area and let me tell you, the Arbitron rankings were #42 in the nation. So a LOT of people saw that. Looks abso bad on WXII. And while they're at it, they can fire Lanie Pope... that chick annoys the hell out of me.

I like the first one much better. The reaction of that reporter makes me laugh so hard every time I view it. I've been laughing so hard I gave myself a headache. I've been coughing up week-old kolaches I've been laughing so freakin' hard.
