Wow, does this sorry excuse for a pitcher need to GTFO. He has just RUINED the Red Sox' season...again (just like 2006). He is the worst RP of all time. What a total dickhead asswipe.

What the hell are you smoking, 7??? Ruined their season???? You do realize that even if the Sox lose this game that they're 2.5 games out and still play the Rays 3 more times, right??? You realize that they're WAY ahead of Minnesota in the wildcard, right??? You realize the pathetic Yankees (fuck NY and their shitty baseball team) are now in 4th place behind the Blue Jays, right??? Listen, this may not be the Sox year. I think Anaheim (or whatever the fuck they call themselves this week) is the team to beat this season, so we shall see how it all shakes out. I've been a Red Sox fan since I was a little boy, and certainly don't feel like any season has been "ruined". Have a drink, and relax dude! One other thing...who the hell let you be a Red Sox fan with all your "love" for Pittsburgh??? Is it because Pittsburgh doesn't really have a major league baseball team

Wow, the Yankees are in 4th place, haven't won dick since 2000...since then Boston's won 2 WS's....

..and you still feel a need to waste an entire sentence on them in your vag-flap? And people wonder why the term 'mass-hole' has gained such popularity!!!!!

Being a bit overdramatic there, aren't you? Timlin actually had been pitching very well over the last half of the year up until these last two outings. That being said, they probably need to replace the guy. He's been a good pitcher out of the pen over the last few years but the guy is 42. I think he's done.

I think its been a pretty good year for the Sox considering that much of the team is tired and often injured from the extra long season last year & I still expect them to get the Rays on the final series.
If the Sox get the wild card and face the Angels perhaps even better for them. Irregardless of the fact that the Angels are kicking the crap out of everybody this year, the red sox always seem to get their number at the most important time.

Once again, I can't even begin to think of enough different ways to tell you to go to hell. Some things never change.

I think Frank's comment was directed at me, 7! I NEVER miss an opportunity to rip the Yankees or NY! I DESPISE both of them and take GREAT pleasure watching them tank their season! I guess the highest payroll in sports doesn't quite buy what it used to!

They were definitely aimed at you, John. And I agree, John...there's no better time to kick soomeone than when they're down!!! And the Yankees are in hell's basement right now. Ole George is probably in a padded cell watching re-runs of the 96 World Series with George Kostanza. "Vag-Flap" was a great term Frank just coined, though. 8)

Couldn't happen to a bigger pussy.

Timlin sucked and was a crybaby in Philly.

Boston misses that mutt with fleas Ramirez.

They haven't missed Ramirez at all. The team's batting average and slugging percentage have both gone up since the trade. Yes, Manny has been tearing the cover off the ball since going to LA but his replacement, Jason Bay, has driven in 33 runs in 35 games with the Sox and has a higher slugging percentage than did Manny while he was still with the team.

I'm with Dave on this one, Joepa. Although Manny's addition to the Dodgers has been a huge boost for them (and why wouldn't it be for a team who can't hit to save their lives), his absence in Boston has almost gone unnoticed. That's a pretty astonishing fact, given Manny is one of the greatest hitters, EVER, in MLB history! Manny's antics were POISON in the clubhouse, and I honestly don't care that he's gone. If the Dodgers go on to win the World Series and the Red Sox don't even make the playoffs, I still won't feel any differently about Manny being gone. Manny's act simply doesn't fly in a city like Boston. It was time for Manny to go 5 years ago, so I'm glad he's gone! On another note...how about your boy McCupcake

I'm sure JoePa has plenty of scathing things to say about McNabb. I've seen it before.

On another note, John, just a suggestion...You can put the "John from Boston" in your sig so you don't have to type it every time, ya know?

It was directed at John.....and while he is a masshole, he happens to be one of my favorite massholes...I enjoy his rants. If I ever get up to fenway to see a game, he's the first fucker I'm calling....I figure he'd probably be a great fenway tour guide/beer drinking companion.

I'll be quite smart about it, however....my Yankee gear stays home. I've seen Red Sox fans walk out of Yankee Stadium with blood seeping from their rectum. I'm sure similar damage happens to idiots that walk into Fenway with an NY logo anywhere on their person...

As far as 7wishes...you really need to start sucking on oxygen. If you feel the need to try to take a swipe at me in a completely unrelated thread, you need to get out and breath some fresh air.

John, or anyone that can answer this....admittedly, I have not watched much baseball lately....

Has Ortiz's hitting been affected by Manny's departure? I had always theorized that one of the reasons attributed to Ortiz's 'becoming' after becoming a RedSock, was the protection that Manny gave him in the lineup. Or has Manny's protection been replaced by another hitter that sufficiently protects Ortiz?

I think his lower production this year is more due to injuries than anything and he missed about 50 games. He's been in the .250s and .260s for most of the year and getting about 1 hr every 20 AB or so. His RBI production is about right, though. He's got 73 in 362 AB, which would come out to about 125 for the entire year if he played the whole season.

Right, but is there a discernable difference between his play prior to getting injured (prior to the all-star break) and after Manny left?

McLorenzen is a front-running fraud.
I remain but a casual Eagles observer until the outset of the Kevin Kolb era, then I'll be a full-blown Igglez Zealot again. I honestly CAN'T even enjoy wins while his fat ass is under center.

Keep your chinstrap buttoned, McSixTheOtherWay.

Actually thank god he doesn't have one for each chin b/c they'd never get a play off with him unbottoning and buttoning 3 of the things between every play.

His numbers have been affected a bit, but nothing all that noticeable. I think the only number that has been greatly affected that can be directly attributable to Manny's departure are the walks. Teams have no reason to pitch to Ortiz without Manny hitting behind him. They've been mostly hitting Kevin Youkilis behind Ortiz, with Dustin Pedroia even hitting cleanup for some stretches. Even though Youkilis has had a very good and consistent season (the first consistent season of his career), and Pedroia should win the MVP, going away, neither of those guys are Manny. Manny simply scares the shit out of other teams, so having the guy hitting in back of a guy like Ortiz is invaluable. I don't know any manager in the big leagues who ever even condiered pitching around Ortiz to face Manny! As Dave alluded to, I think Ortiz's larger issues this season are the endless injuries he's been dealing with (and still is). We'll see how he adjusts next season, knowing there is no Manny there to protect his spot in the order.

Not really...His numbers have been pretty steady for the last couple of months.

It was a decent pitch...an off-the-plate sinker, down and away. Give the hitter (Pena) credit here.

I miss the good old days with Carmichael, Bergy, Jaworski and Montgomery. I can't even watch this team anymore. A quick start before the usual meltdown, they're the Chargers of the East coast.
