Indy show...incredible!

just got back.....incredible show...and new songs played!!! Feeling that Way, Anytime, Escape etc.! Be Good to Yourself was dropped. Cain sounded a bit off with his vocals as compared to past years. Arnel was a freakin' daredevil......we all know Perry was a run around nut, Augerri had the silky moves, Soto was extremely energetic and a bit over the edge with his arm movements and we can safely assume our little midget Arnel....has ARRIVED!!! He was incredible....his energy...his enthusiasm and his dialect have really improved....really no negatives....for the most part they were near perfect!

Heart was incredible as well....anyone see what was on the back of Nancy's guitar during 'Barracuda?'...i'm sure it was an anti McCain sticker or pro Obama thing....though I oppose Obama personally, I was wondering how they'd deal with their song being used at the RNC and McCain campain still legally using it for Gov. Palin although Heart has asked for a discontinuation.....and I think Nancy if she was protesting...did it tastefully.

Cheap Trick...the most underappreciated American rock band was typical great!!! I'm not sure if their bassist is shorter than Arnel and looking more like a woman, but this band is one of my faves and were great........incredible to see Cain playing keys for them on The Flame and Cain and Dean singing back ups on Dream Police!

Indy was rocked.....seems like the best shows are always in Indy!!!! see ya! :P

Just got back from Indianapolis as well. I've got class tomorrow morning, so I'm going to try to make this short and sweet right now. I asked the guy who scanned my ticket on the way in what kind of crowd they were expecting tonight, and he said 18,000. And there was at least that many there. It was packed. Cheap Trick played to a half-full pavilion and did a decent job, although I will admit I'm not too familiar with their work. They played from 7:01-7:46.

Heart was up next, and based on what happened in Detroit last night I didn't know what to expect. I asked a guy at the sound board before the show if Heart would be playing tonight, and he laughed and said "we'll find out together. They're supposed to be, though." Well, they performed and they were unbelievable. Hit after hit, had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands. Ann Wilson, what can I say? She was sick last night, but you couldn't see any lingering effects of that tonight. She was great. I had never seen Heart before, but I can definitely say that I will be seeing more of them in the future. Their set was from 8:10-9:08.

Up next was Journey. The crowd started getting pumped as soon as Back In Black started. I was expecting the video board feed of them walking to the stage, but they didn't do that. I was a little disappointed. Anyway, Arnel was finding his voice on Never Walk Away and Only The Young, but by the time Stone In Love rolled around after Neal's solo he was spot-on for the rest of the night. The crowd reacted well to Never Walk Away, but after Ask The Lonely they went into After All These Years and Change For The Better back-to-back. A lot of sitting, but most people at least stayed in the pavilion. I will say this - Change For The Better is a MONSTER live. I was loving it.

We got all the usual favorites, plus La Do Da, Mother, Father (Deen on vocals), Chain Reaction and Feelin' That Way/Anytime. The crowd was really digging Feelin' That Way/Anytime, which was good to see. I thought the setlist was paced a little strangely, with Lights following Separate Ways, which was played in the first third of the show. Overall, though, a stellar performance by Journey. Arnel was a powerhouse tonight, and everyone who said that the YouTube clips and the CD don't do him justice were exactly right. Killer vocalist. A lot of Journey shirts in the crowd, and a ton of people buying the new Revelation shirt. Ross seemed to be having some bass problems near the end, and he stood by his stack of amps while a tech worked on his guitar for most of Wheel In The Sky. I also saw him run for the first time in my 8 Journey shows. He was working the crowd off to the side of Jonathan's piano, and had to get back to do his backing vocals, so he ran to get to the microphone and made it just in time. Journey came out at 9:33 and wrapped up at 11:14.

I'm heading to Chicago on Friday for my second and final show of the tour. Can't wait. It was a great evening tonight. If I think of more, I'll post it tomorrow.

Glad you all had a good time though. Sounds like a blast.

Yes, the new material saw a lot of sit downs....but sounded great.....Change for the better had 1/3 of the pavilion up and 2/3 sitting....but noone was bored. Arnel has a very childish fun like demeanor to him...you can't help but smile the whole concert to see how happy he is....and some of his moves are a bit Axl Rose and other than that I can find no similarities...he's his own man....the man is bound to have plantar faschitis within a year with all the jumps he did! Surprisingly, I saw a number of Philapino fans there....very cool! Yes merchandise sales were good...you could buy an autographed cd for $50. Price of shirts was about $10 more than their website for those of you that want to save some coin! I bought 2 shirts , a poster and mug last night online when i got home...saved a bunch. I was wondering why they were all wearing jackets on a hot summer Indiana night, but half way through the show...it did get very cold into the low 50s! Cain thanked the fans for the great sales of the album and they did have advertisements for the CD being available for purchase at the show. If I had to pick one song that may have been the least well received....(and note i didn't say performed the worst), it would be After All These Years or Change for the Better......other than that, due to fans knowing the hits, the fans were very involved. I was surprised, how well, fans knew the new material....didn't see this enthusiasm with Generations, or Arrival. I would agree that the lawn was near packed....place holds about 22,000...i'm sure it was well over 18,000! Catch these guys....Arnels vocals were strong. Curious note though....all the show I kept thinking about Augerri...just how he would have sounded...and I think the 2001 Augerri was just as good as Arnel if not better......and Soto gave them an edge and they smiled a lot which I didn't see on the 30th anniversary tour to which it looked like the band was upset with Augerri about something....with this....the band just looks alive....very animated.....give credit to Soto to planting the seed....but Arnel is just that little underdog you can't help but to root for!

The Indy show was fantastic. I love 5*. Arnel definately must be feeling better, since he looked like he was having a ball as well as the rest of the band. I couldn't believe they did Feeling That Way/Anytime and LA DO DA. A couple of my favorite songs. Hope they do them again in Chicago. BJG you can still get tickets :D

I agree, supposedly 18,000 tickets were sold, but they must have had a lot of walk ups since the place was packed. I saw where AP mentioned on his site, that it was sold-out. The guy from ILAA mentioned that 15,290 something tickets were sold for Detroit in a venue that holds 15,000.

BTW. Anybody know who the Pacer was in the 2nd row? Good thing he didn't stand during the concert. He just sat on the top of his seat and was already tall.

All in all, the concert was unbelievable AGAIN.

I live a mile west of the venue and the traffic was backed up as much as I've seen it this year. Verizon can hold around 24,000 or so if the lawn is packed and I would guess that it was approaching that many, just judging from the traffic.

I'm always surprised people aren't familiar with Cheap Trick's material. They were huge. I'm a big fan of theirs. I've NEVER heard Robin Zander miss a note and he's one of those singers that just goes for it. Love the guy's voice.

I always thought Cheap Trick had more hits than Heart, but Heart's from up the street and maybe we just missed the boat up here.

I wasn't sure who the Pacer was but my bud that went with me did. He was setting behind me and to the left. :)

18,000 in Indy, wow. The L.A. Greek holds 5'800. They probably could have added a third show and it would have sold out.
