Short Singers?

Postby ILoveAORMusic » Thu Sep 11, 2008 7:00 pm

Ok, maybe not short, per se but is it my imagination that the best Rock singers are short? I would define short as being less the average height of most men which I believe is 5'10".

To name a few of the big voices of r-n-r:

Steve Perry, Steve Walsh, Tommy Shaw, Arnel Pineda, all of which are less than 5'6".

I guess if you had to trade height for the ability to sing like these guys its a worth while trade, IMHO.

..just my 2 cents worth

Don't forget Ronnie James Dio. Man has a serious fucking voice. When that guy busts loose, it's like the gates of hell are being flung wide open...

Sorry, my list my not meant to be an all inclusive. It simply strikes me as a huge coincidence that the really big voices come from short singers.

Prince being the most notable exception to the rule

You got to be kidding me....Steve Perry is less then 5'6"? I never seen the dude in person before, but still he never looked that short in pix or videos. Damn, I must have at least an inch over him then.

Arnel is 5'3'', I suppose. So that makes Steve taller than him by just...less than 3"?! :?

BTW, WELCOME ILoveAORMusic! Noticed this is yet your 3rd post. :)

He's short, but not quite that short. I'm almost 5'6" and standing next to him with 2 inch sandles on I was almost the same height. So he's gotta be around 5'8".

You're right T-Bone.....a lot of tiny singers with huge voices. Even with the gals, look at........Pat Benatar, Christine Aguilera, Martina McBride.

And then there's Jon Anderson of Yes.

Or perhaps formerly of Yes would be more correct:

Perry is 5'8" or a little taller. I know I bash on him sometimes but I'm not gonna use the midget card on him.
