The Plasmatics were a poor excuse for a band.

This is about chics in bands, it didn't say they couldn't suck.

Benatar and Ann Wilson were the two that I tried to emulate in High School. They are still in my book the best female rockers of all time.

She's got an amazing rock voice. I saw her a couple of times back in the day and the gal definitely had/has some powerhouse pipes. I think she went on to sing Jazz for a while though and (missed a show here recently with her and The Headpins/Darby Mills) but from what I can tell she has gone back to mixing it up with some of her rock stuff too. And the gal sure knows how to throw a video together.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVIFVUX6nSM

Some other Canadian gals that can rock:

Sass Jordan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5VrXKbtzOA

Amanda Marshall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSpphsaNQvA

Holly Woods http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZSlrrQaMTQ

Didn't Bon Jovi do the original Edge Of A Broken Heart? I thought it was a demo left off of Slippery When Wet?

Bloody Hell, Deb a new name to the list! You keep costing me money!!!!!!!!

Holly Woods is a new one on me.
I now have your other recommendations in my collection, as you know.
Lee Aaron is a scarily good rock singer! I'd like to hear her sing jazz though. It's a very different style to rock.

Why are people like Britney mega stars and women like this are not? Life is weird sometimes.

I think I prefer her rock voice.

  Sorry...

She can sing Jazz well too, but I'm not into Jazz at all. I love a bluesy feel, but Jazz just doesn't do it for me. She's got a powerful rock voice.

I like Holly Woods voice too. She was/is in a band called Toronto that were popular back in the 80s. Toronto actually wrote Heart's top 10 hit What About Love.

As you know I love Amanda Marshall's voice, it's unique, great soul and delivery. She is the female version of JSS, IMO, no where near as popular as she should be. I remember reading how much Elton John and Jon Bon Jovi liked her after hearing her song Dark Horse. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kFwS-LG5SY

Ive just been looking at Toronto clips on You Tube. Fab voice.
And I like every new singer you have put me onto. I like voices with soul, too.

But you are making serious holes in my bank balance, woman!

Even though I sing jazzy stuff, I don't like proper jazz. The scat stuff - eurgh. Just sing the bloody lyrics and stop messing about with the song.!

In my words........I like "easy listening music which swings with a hint of jazz."

Because the younger generation can be yogurt heads, and Britney is sleazy.

I don't listen to enough jazz to know what proper jazz is, maybe jazz and blues is a fine line for me. But I get more of a bluesy feel from your voice......you've got a great voice. :)

I like voices with alot of soul and power. Case in point, as far as the poptarts go, Christine Aguilera could sing circles around Britney Spears......gal's got some major pipes.

Thanks. I have had no training and I am no expert. I just open my mouth and it comes out. But what I have always done instinctively is to live the words and kind of act them out. The breathing comes naturally if I am truly feeling the lyric and interpreting it .
I feel the lyrics, and try to put that feeling into what comes out of my mouth so my audience feel it too.
And I like to listen to other singers who do that.

I think that if you just sing the words without feeling them, that isn't really singing. IT's kind of like reciting a dramatic piece of dialogue from a drama in a monotone way. Has to be light and shade for me.

But that's just my take on it. And I just don't get how these jazzers want to be going "ba da doo doo bee doo bee daa daaa" and all that scatting stuff? What's that all about> Sing those words to me and make me feel your emotion, too.

To me a lot of jazz is self indulgent. The singers or players can't seem to help themselves and they go off on long winded musical trips. And I hate all that. I also hate in when the singers like Mariah Carey sing twenty seven notes when only one would do. To me, a singer is there to entertain me, not entertain themselves. They should be drawing me in to their performance, not alienating me. And what I loosely call 'proper' jazz tends to do a lot of that.

Christina? NOW we're talking! Obviously she has to perform the kind of music the kids are into because of her age and the times we are in, but I think if she'd been a young singer in the 80's she'd have done some great stuff that we would all like.

I just get a bit annoyed that the UK is flooded with these non talents such as Britney, and yet gals as fabulous as Sass Jordan and Amanda Marshall for example have never been heard of.

If I had not joined MR I would never have heard of these people - and look what I would have missed!!!!!!!!

I blame Simon Cowell.

Oh and George W Bush. Yeh, it's definitely their fault!

Amanda's got a great voice, but my only complaint when she's performing is sometimes when she gets right into the song, she gets a little too spastic Joe Cocker {if you know what I mean}
