I 've seen it happen to my Steelers before...I recall a couple of AFC Championships where they were favored and just didn't show up...so I understand the feeling here.

A couple of years ago, the Pats lost their opener to Buffalo AT HOME 34-0. They won 14 of 15 and then the Super Bowl.

Not saying that's going to happen this year...but it's far too early to throw in the towel now.

You can throw the towel in! This wasn't Buffalo. It was a bad Miami team who looked like world beaters out there! As I said within 2 minutes of Tom Brady's injury, the Patriots are done! Brady is one of the top 3 QB's to ever play in the NFL. Recovering from that kind of a loss simply isn't happening. Also, Cassel is DREADFUL. Come on Stu! You wouldn't take the Patriots' problem of losing your starting QB on a bet! I know Ben left for awhile yesterday, but he was back on the sideline, still in uniform, so I doubt it was anything that will keep him out, for even a week. The difference is that the Steelers actually have a backup QB who has been a starter in the NFL. The Patriots starter managed to go his entire college career (backing up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinert) without ever playing, so the dude hasn't played since high school! The Steelers lost to what I think is a pretty good Eagles team (assuming Westbrook isn't too severely hurt). When this season is over, the Steelers will be in the playoffs...the Patriots won't be! The great thing for me is that even after the Steelers beat the Patriots this season, it still doesn't mean anything, because it's simply the Steelers beating up on a JV team! Maybe the Steelers will at least not run their mouths this season and concentrate on trying to win football games!

This is always an interesting debate. I loved Joe Montana, but I believe Brady is a better passer than Montana was. The other factor is that Montana played with a FAR better supporting cast than Brady has played with for most of his career. Prior to last season, Brady's cast of receivers has been AWFUL, and Montana played with the best receiver in this history of the NFL! As for Unitas, I can't really intelligently comment on Unitas, because he was before my time. Looking at his career statistics, they're nothing spectacular. He only threw for more than 3000 yards twice in a very long 17 year career and only threw for more than 25 touchdowns twice in a 17 year career. To be fair to Johnny U., the NFL season was only 14 games for most of his career (and was 12 for the first 5). I know that football historians view Unitas favorably, so who am I to argue. As for Marino...He was a GREAT pure passer and decision maker. The guy almost never got touched, which was amazing, because he was slow as shit. Bradshaw has always been the tough one for me. He and Aikman are easily the two least talented HOF QB's in the history of the NFL. Both guys have DREADFUL numbers, for guys who are in the HOF. That said, because Bradshaw is one of only two QB's (Montana being the other one) in the history of the NFL to win 4 super bowls, it's very difficult to not have him on the list, but it still makes me cringe seeing his name on there! As for the rest of the list, I'd rank Manning and Elway ahead of everyone else on the list. Didn't Tarkenton somehow manage to lose 4 Super Bowls??? He and Jim Kelly would be great friends

My comment to Stu was that the Steelers never beat the Patriots when it actually matters, and by that, I was referring to the playoffs! Regular season games mean a lot during the regular season. I took your statement as we never beat Brady in a --game-- that mattered. Your right we never beat Brady in the playoffs, but did beat N.E in the '97 Divisional Round 7-6.

As for enjoying the season... if they don't work on that offensive line.....IN THE MATTER OF 7 days...then we could possibly be sitting home with you at the end of the season enjoying jack squat, Johnny. I'm optimistic for an offensive line that had many question marks coming into the season and having a game where they looked like complete fools, having a chance to respond to adversity. How will they respond? I'm eager to find out. Exploited weakness is one thing.. finding a solution speaks wonders. We'll see. As for NE.. I wasn't worried about them even with Brady in the lineup. That defense is showing their age more and more each week. Trash talking is part of the game, and we never took it past that..like NE did with their victories. (Waving Terrible Towels, Dancing on SD's field and cockin' off to the fans, etc.) But your right, we don't have to look forward to a punk guaranteeing any early victories. Of course they didn't fire Ed Hochuli, nor should they have! Listen, San Diego CLEARLY got fucked by Hochuli blowing his whistle WAY too soon! It doesn't change the fact that he's been a solid official for years, and he's allowed to make a mistake. The bottom line is the guy fucked up, but would NEVER be fired for that. It's not like it was malicious!
