Advice For Aspiring Rock DJ

Hey All,

I assume many of you at least recognize me. I post here on occasion, but do read this board on a daily basis.

I am currently a college Junior at Fairfield University in CT. Being a classic/arena rock fanatic (hence the many hours I spend on this site), I am a radio major with aspirations to work somehow with the music I love. I hope to keep playing it for the people who already love it, and, maybe, get new fans along the way.

At Fairfield I am the Program Director at our station WVOF 88.5 FM, and the host of ROCK NATION Radio, where I play "The Most Rockin' Artists of the 70s & 80s). Needless to say, Journey is played during EVERY (and I mean EVERY show). I have played everything from the Perry, Augeri and Pineda eras, as well as, album cuts besides the usual hits.

Thus the question, any advice for me, from you guys, the true Journey/rock fans?

I am trying my best to have the best show I can, that ALL fans of 70s & 80s rock can enjoy and rock out to.

With that said I invite you to tune in to ROCK NATION on Tuesday from 8-10 pm EST (providing you are doing nothing at the time, or in need of music while you post on MelodicRock). Here is the website I made for the show, www.rocknationradio.org. You can find a direct link to WVOF's web stream by clicking the blue "here" on the first listing.

Any advice is immensely and support is immensely appreciated.

And thanks for all of the Journey/rock news you discuss on this board. With all of that information, I look like a true rock aficionado on the air & off.

ROCK ON!

Dude, that's fuckin nuts - I attended Fairfield for one semester before I transferred out. I'm a year above you, but still, that's a crazy coincidence to see you around here. Sounds like you're kickin ass up there on the radio... good work :)

This may not sound like something you'll appreciate, but my advice is to find another subject to major in. Radio DJ doesn't pay squat and the only plus is you get to meet famous people and let's face it, that doesn't pay the bills.

I actually am a journalism minor as well. I have concluded that my goal is to work with the subject (rock music) for than necessarily being on the radio. Therefore, I figure, I can just try to keep on my toes. If they want me to write for a classic rock newspaper/magazine/website, I can do that. Do something on tv? I can do that to (years of acting experience is also in my past).

Regardless, thanks for the heads up!

Just trying to keep a heads up for you because one of my best friends is a local radio DJ down here in NE PA and his company is giving him an ass ton of shit and there isn't anyone really hiring and the $$$ is shit. Nice to see you've got a minor in journalism as thats a smart idea, but I've also seen people have touble finding a job in that as well so best of luck to you. If you make it big some day you can say some idiot on melodicrock forums told ya I'd have trouble making it
