LOL!!! Nothing gets past MR peeps, does it? And thanks -- she's my little angel! Today she actually told me she wanted me to get her another Durian fruit because mommy threw the other one in the trash! Keep an eye out, because the Durian Adventures will return!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That is SO funny, because Zamborambo in the shout box is always going on about Durians being passed lovingly from ape to ape by the orangutans of Borneo, and I had no idea they really ate them! SWEET! He's the one that got me interested in Durians.

Wow, Rip, I can't stop laughing watching your video. Man, were you brave! Not even the host of Travel Channel's Bizzare Foods could stomach the taste of durian. Of course, I absolutely love durian, but hubby and kids abhor the smell!

I wish he could see how that Orangutan was risking drowning to fish it out of the water to eat! They obviously love it!

Actually, she said "stinking up the whole house".... LOL! Tonight she forbade me from ever bringing another Durian back into the home, but I do have a nice deck outside to eat them on. But little girl actually asked for another one tonight! We will eat it together...

Don't sweat him. No one knows why people have to say things like that.

Anyway, what does Durian taste like? I saw you make a grimace when you took the second bite. Looked like you almost gagged.

I'd never heard of it or seen it until I saw someones comment on it when it was in your av.

The video was very entertaining. I hope there's a sequel. :D

Grew up there but never tried it...although i have put away many, many, many baluts in my formative years. You are a very good ambassador, Rip. Hope you make it to the PI (Philippine Islands, slang) someday. They will love you and you'll be wowed by their hospitality. This will come in handy: http://www.rosettastone.com/personal/languages/tagalog

Nah, everyone knows Trollafana is only here to take drive-by potshots. His entertainment value has been spent here...

I will be eating more of these soon, and got a shipment of Durian candy in the mail today! May take some with me to CA for Arnel, if he would like it.

Hey Rip I found it very entertaining! LOL! You can eat gross smelling stuff for us anyday. But don't be so shy, put it on Youtube then clue us in! I think you look fine, your baby girl looks sweet. Takes courage to eat the unknown in front of others. You make me proud to be an American! LOL! Keep it up my friend!

Speaking of mullets.... Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh! HAHAHAHA!

No, no mullet on Rip's head -- hair is all one length, and I just got several inches cut off so it is now the length you see in the video. Normally more body on top but I had hat-head from wearing a ball cap backwards.

I had to laugh while I was watching - and I totally get the grimace while eating! Durian stinks to high heaven - but tastes like heaven too! Seriously, the worse the fruit smells, the better it tastes, but the first couple of mouthfuls you can't get the smell out of your mind, even when you're loving the taste!

Best durian I ever had was in Java: stank like someone sprayed a feral tomcat with 'tropical' fruit juice and left it to ferment a few weeks; tasted like the best vanilla ice cream with creme brulee and hints of warm banana cake. You have to go to the tropics to get the best - the ones that are suitable for transport aren't usually very good varieties, because they're chosen to be kept in cold storage.

If you have an asian grocery store anywhere near you, ask if they can get durian ice cream for you. My local one does durian icy-poles (don't know the American word - ice creams/ice blocks on a stick) that are the best thing on a hot day after time at the beach when your mouth is full of salt. If you want to get your wife into durian, see if you can find some custard apple - similar texture, vaguely similar taste (in the way pears have a similar taste to apples), but not stinky. And if you can find them, try mangosteen! Best fruit ever!

Good luck with your Durian Adventures - keep us posted!
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

When I saw the first video, I noticed a 1 second shot of her legs at the very end as she was turning off the camera, and left it in there just for you...
