Never thought other than SP this will be rendered absolutely spot on.
SP better be proud of Arnel coz that was justice dedicated to him.

A beautiful voice but the song lacked originality. It was not Arnel. It was Arnel covering Perry. It's 1/4 Arnel and 3'4 Perry, imo.

Arnel's live version can be compared to the original studio version. JMHO.

You've just described the predicament every Journey replacement singer faces.
Even Jeff wasn't exempt....the more the tour went on, the more those Cooke inflections began creeping up.

Arnel does an outstanding job here.
As much as I prefer to hear Neal rock, Arnel's musical terra firma is slow ballads.

Not for me. He is not striking out on his own, He has the words and music and the performance of the original to show him the way and he is only following a pattern already set. It shows in the way he sings the song. It's like he is reciting.

If he changed it up it wouldn't be long before the comments turned into "It doesn't sound right". "It's not as good as Perry" Yada, yada, yada

Puta Madre!
We have no live version from Perry to compare this with. That said, this is gotta be the best live version of this song I have ever ever seen and heard live. This coming from a crappy You Tube video! I hope he sings this tonight at the Shoreline.
Show me a video that will otherwise change my mind.

peace,
John

Arnel was so great last night. WYLAW was really moving. Also surprised to hear them play Faith in the Heartland! Great setlist - Journey is just on fire right now!

I was there last night too; WYLAW was one of the best songs of the night; Arnel did a terrific job on it. I have video of it also but no time to upload it ... off to Shoreline.

But if Arnel would have went in and done it his way, many out there would say he ruined the song by not doing it like Perry. Shows you can't please everyone. I'm just happy they have a top 10 cd and are doing well. Heck I just glad they are still around, so we can here the songs.
