Ludicrous, laughable, and pretty pathetic, most of it. Typical online music poll.

Not to mention clearly created by a Journey fan and in no way indicative of anything other than the poll creator is a Journey fan.
Best singer of ALL TIME and Arnel is number 7... yeah, that doesn't scream 'Journey fans'. He's a good singer but of all time... number 7... after one album... yeah. Ok.

That is officially one of the most ridiculous lists I have ever seen in my life! This list must have been manufactured by that propaganda spreading machine that is Jackass Talk! Arnel Pineda is the 7th greatest singer ever???? Really??? Ross Valory is the greatest bassist ever???? That's fucking hilarious. If you talk to people who play bass, Valory is far below average at his craft, and isn't in the top 500 bass players! Most have told me that they can't believe Valory wasn't replaced years ago (although, I guess Perry tried that). I definitely agree that Schon and Perry rank high at their craft, but the rest of that list is RIDICULOUS!

There's some nice bass work on the early stuff. Ross doesn't get to show what he's got too often in the context of Journey's music. He's better than you think. He's no Geddy Lee or John Myung, but he's far from terrible.

I'm not a bass player, so really can't judge Ross' talents. I simply conveyed the point that the people I happen to know, who know a bit about bass, have told me that Valory is a "very average" bass player, and many weren't even that flattering!

The lists are generated through online polls which gauge the pulse of the site's interested visitors, not that of a random sample. So, of course, the results cannot be generalized and are only valid for that particular volunteer population, the poll participants. Duh!

The problem with these kinds of polls is that a single fan can generate multiple votes. Here's how to do it on Firefox:

1. Vote
2. Tools, Options, Privacy, Show Cookies
3. Scroll down to "The-Top-Ten" cookies
4. Click on Remove cookies
5. Refresh the polls page
6. Repeat step 1

I'm sure multiple voting can even be automated with a very small script.

That's true, rampant in fact, rendering the polls statistically unreliable. The administrators recognize that inherent disadvantage though, and I don't see any attempt on their part to pass the results off as representative of the population. The site is basically just engaging its visitors with dynamic interactive content.
