And for those who are click impaired

_TuesdayOctober1st2008Malibu, CA

September was a Pit Bull of a month. Tough and abrasive, and you just couldn't trust what it might do next - a good time to clear house, clear out exploitive and abusive relationships - it's enough to dredge up the recluse in me but The Good Wife keeps me in touch with others or I'd be quite happy to live in a void, I think!

Took aforementioned Good Wife and one year old Talon to see Journey at the Greek Theater in L.A. last night. Their new album, Revelation, is officially platinum! T'was great to see them doing so well on the road - and Talon had his first AAA All Access laminate, complete with photo ID!

The band sounded great - Arnel was singing so well and it seemed like the L.A. crowd was unusually enthusiastic - they're a notoriously staid audience normally.

Off to the studio to mix a Supagroup track for some movie..........

DrFU, your new av looks like Ann Wilson's dog that they showed on the video screen at the Greek last night. Had a "dog food sucks" shirt on. :)

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

If Perry releases a double disc set of new material, we'll call it even.

Tons and TONS better. I was just hoping for some decent tunes. Didn't expect all the hoopla they ended up getting.

My pic is Lola Valory; she was walking Ross around the backstage area at Sacramento, and they stopped by to chat for a couple of minutes. Didn't know Ann had one too -- with cool taste in t-shirts, no less. :)

Ross and Lola also parade through this Cheap Trick vid from the same night: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_d2X8PRW7yU

Well, RIAA is not updated with Revelation info. The numbers "we" have been watching make it close but not likely.

UNLESS this has something to do with the inclusion of the DVD???

OR he is counting foreign sales or maybe tour sales that had not been accounted for yet????

Jeez, let's not get into this "is it one or two" argument again. ONE MORE TIME, JOURNEY DID NOT MAKE THE CERTIFICATION RULES!!!!! PLATINUM baby and I'm damned proud of the band!!!!!!!!!!!! Who would have thunk it?!?!?!?!??! :) :)

Yep, some "fans" just refuse to give the band their due and actually be happy for their success. Why they consider themselves fans, I'll never know. It's like being a fan of a football team and being upset that they win the Super Bowl. Makes absolutely zero freakin' sense.

But OK, I'll bite--let's divide in half. Even at that, it would be a Gold album which, in today's musical climate, would be astounding on its own. But it's gone one better and certified Platinum. Way to go, guys! This success exceeded most of our wildest expectations.

As a response to that I'll just say this. I'm the biggest RUSH fan this side of Canada, but I don't love everything by them. I think Snakes & Arrows, Vapor Trails, and Counterparts are weak. They dropped the ball on those efforts. Neil went from writing about Sci-fi stuff, to being witty and cunning with his lyrics.

I have to admit to actually liking Revelation better than Arrival, Red 13, or Generations. The best songs on Arrival top the best songs on Revelation, sorry.

Am I happy that they are still touring? I guess.
Have I seen them? Nope. Last time I saw them was on the Arrival tour.

I think Higher place is the best song they've done in the Post Perry era.

If they weren't planning on doing new material next year they could tour behind this album early next year and then through the summer and it would probably sell another 500,000 units and go double Platinum. Still might.

Agreed.
Revelation is easily one of their most consistent records (when you don't hit the skip button, you know you got a winner), but Arrival has more peaks and valleys.

Shit Hot! Remembering rocking to Journey when I was in high school and all those years I knew Arnel in the Philippines over 20 years ago. Congrats to the boys!

This calls for a celebration....anyone got any mushrooms for sale? Just kidding

I'm not a big fan of "Vapor Trails". However, I do rather like "Snakes & Arrows" and "Counterparts", the latter of which I really did not like at all when I first heard it.
