Since we are in the Halloween season this can be a fun question! What horror movie is your favorite, or actually made you wake up during the night feeling a little nervous...? C'mon, throw some out there. Many will be watching scary movies this month and we can share with each other the ones not to miss.
Mine was the original Halloween back in 1978. I was a little Gator back then and it was the first horror Id seen Had to walk home alone that night from my friends house(it was on HBO) and I heard noises at every bush and kepy thinking about Michael Myers peeking out around those bushes on the sidewalk...
Then Poltergeist in 82..That damn clown doll that comes to life under the bed. Most recently I liked the movies Wrong Turn and Joy Ride. Both really good. And the remake of The Hills Have Eyes...

I've never really been afraid of horror movies (I was watching the above about 8-9 years old)... but the one that I honestly have a hard time watching is Pet Semetary. The book didn't scare me... the movie, though - wow, forget it.

If'n y'all want a great one... watch the TV version of The Shining with Steven Weber... THAT was an awesome one.

The only one that ever scared me was Candyman. I was 6 years old, my dad and I came back from seeing the Harlem Globetrotters play at the old Cavs arena, and we threw Candyman on. The character's voice, the imagery of the film, and the way in which he was summoned all just scared the shit outta me for some reason. I'd seen plenty of scary ones before that, parents never tried to censor my media intake, and of course plenty after that, and nothing ever kept me up at night like that one did. Unfortunately, it wasn't too scary when I went back and watched it again a few years later...

Phantasm series, hands down......

I love the Friday the 13th series, I'm a big fan of 80s horror overall.

Krueger and IT, hands down. I grew up on scary movies, why I don't know because I had severe nightmares because of it, but nonetheless, a HUGE fan of scary movies...esp A Nightmare on Elm Street. IT was the one that gave me problems when I was little, and when I watch it today I laugh, but at the same time still feel that anxiety from when I was little. I now crave that feeling but sadly will never feel it again when it comes to today's SHIT horror films. Long live creations like Freddy, Michael, Jason, Chuckie. IT, Leather Face, and Poltergeist.

There was a cast table reading with a script, but I hear the project has been shelved.
Tarantino's buddy wrote a script years ago that he couldn't find funding for.
New Line Cinema was going to reluanch the franchise (ala Chainsaw, Dawn of the Dead etc) but that has been canned, as well.

"IT" was good until the end. Just like King's novels.

I have a friend in the Coscarelli camp, and he says it is still in talks...funding IS the issue. But all signs point to it being inevitable as a go.

Hellraiser, The Ring, Evil Dead (early 80's version), Blair Witch, Nightmare/Elm, The Exorcist (scared the living shit out of me when I was a kid).

Wrong Turn was half comedy (based on the looks and actions of the inbreds) and half horror.

If the budget is no higher than Oblivion, i don't think they should bother.
Bubba Ho-Tep's success should've given Coscarelli some more clout.

I loved Wrong Turn. Can't watch stuff like the Hills Have Eyes or Last House on the Left. The content is too extreme for my taste. No, I'm a classic girl myself.

Holy Shit. just saw Emily Rose a month ago. believe me that I turned the radio on to keep my mind wandering off to what creepy imagination that movie gave me. not to mention that I watched that film alone in the dark in my bedroom, late at night.

The Ring was awesome the first time I watched it. I liked the scene where the girl came out of the tv screen. totally surprised me. it was also the only movie that made me enter the girls' lavatory since my girl was so freaked out and doesnt want to do her thing alone. but honestly, I was also creeped out myself.

I watched the Grudge 2 (American remake) and it was creepy. haven't seen much of the first Grudge but I believe it would be as good as it's sequel is.

anyway, I see most of these Japanese horror films have these scare factor that has been missing in most American Horror films nowadays. I'm not surprised why a lot of horror films are now remakes from Japan, Korea and China. the storylines are excellent.

Yikes! The Well-Girl was SCARY....the way she walked towards the camera all hunched over, with stringy hair and you couldn't see her face...
THAT, to me, is scarier that any "hack-em-up" slasher flick.......something about "not seeing someone's face" like that has scared me since I was a kid...

What he is 'trying' to do is make a sequel to Bubba, and use the profit to fund the final installment of Phantasm.

Yeah, Oblivion told a bit more about the origins of the Tall Man, but it dragged, and the budget WAS meager....they should at least put forth a cool 150,000 for the flick.

II was flat out forgettable (what is it with sequels always falling back on the military to push a storyline forward). And James Legros playing Mike was less than stellar.

Check out Wrong Turn II. Starts out with Kimberly Caldwell of American Idol fame. Doesn't take long to figure out whats in store.

After watching 'The Ring II' (Japanese original) I was even scared to take a shower in the middle of the afternoon!

Coincidentally, I very stupidly finished watching Emily Rose at almost 3.00am, a time which has great significance in the movie. Needless to say it was a very long night of no sleep!

I don't confuse gore with scare. I prefer deeper plot, more suspense.

I was fine until she climbed out of the well.
I couldn't be left alone in a room with a TV for a week after watching that movie. I just had to keep reminding myself that I hadn't actually watched the killer video.

Horror stories always seem scarier to me when there's a child involved. Is it just me?

Also, anything that involves puppets, especially ventriloquist dummies. They didn't used to bother me but now I can't stand them.

I finally watched 1408 a couple weeks ago. I'm still having some issues with waking up in the middle of the night and thinking about it.
Not sure why. The movie itself was not as good as I thought it would be.

I agree with you about the gore. When I'm in the mood for a horror movie it's because I want to be scared not grossed out.

Nice picture in your Avatar Sara! My son wanted to watch The Ring when he was 16, so I let him. He watched it and claimed it was "no big deal". But in the middle of the night, I snuck in his room, turned on his TV that is not hooked up to cable, and of coarse, the snow screen came on. He sat up vertical in a matter of seconds, eyes wide and said turn that off! LOL! I love being a mom!
