I bet he's glad to be home, finally.

Poor guy has to go home and start singing as soon as he lands.

Very cool. How about a translation of the first part?

He looked exhausted. 20+ hours of traveling has to suck. But I'm sure he'll sleep quite well tonight. I'm glad he 's home. He deserves some rest and relaxation. He's earned it.

The reporter said that Arnel was received warmly by local fans and the media, and that he is so happy to be back home that he wanted to kiss the ground as soon as the plane landed. The rest were excerpts of how he was discovered in YT by Journey.

Thank you. And I know all about wanting to kiss the ground after being out of the country and away from home for an extended period of time. He'll be a megastar there by next summer. The small tour of the Pacific Rim will be all the exposure he needs.

Awesome video, and so glad he's home! Singing TDTWT was a super-cool way to end the clip.

Funny how the reporter said he was warmly greeted at the airport but on the first clip I saw, the peeps were just standing there and have the "Which celebrity is this?" look on their faces...

I bet that footage doesn't tell the whole story though. I'd be willing to bet the crowd was deafening when he walked out of customs.

I have to go with PowerChords here. If there had been a large crowd, The media would have played it up just like they do when Pacman goes home. They love to promote homegrown Stars. Rock music is just not a big thing over there.

TRANSLATION OF WHAT THE NEWSMAN SAID:

Even though he is tired from his trip from America, Arnel Pineda happily faced his fans and the media upon his arrival aboard Philippine Airlines Flight 105 before 5:30 this morning. He was warmly welcomed by his fans and former bandmates from the band where he started. It should be remembered that he became a member of the international band Journey when they discovered him perfom on You Tube.

In our interview, Arnel said he is so happy to be back after five months, so happy in fact that he wanted to kiss the ground. Tired as he was, he did not refuse to sing for us to show the voice that millions had admired.

Rick, do a youtube search on Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, Sharon Cuneta, etc. That is the style of music they love over there.

The newsclip was shot at the restricted area of the airport where only passengers and authorized people could come in (see the steel rail barricades in front of the fans). If they tried to get past that, they could get arrested. That's how strict security is at the Nonoy Aquino International Aiport (NAIA) in Manila is. Once outside the barricades, he would have been mobbed if he were not protected by bodyguards and former bandmates. I'm sure his arrival was unannounced. If it were, there would have been thousands at the airport. Filipino fans can be shy and at other times respectful of their idols. You can not measure how much Filipinos love rock and Arnel from this scenario at the airport.

I've flown in there a ton of times with Filipino Idols so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. If there were large groups waiting outside, the cameras would have been there. Even us Gringo's knew when he was going to arrive, no big secret there. I'm not slighting Arnel in the least. I'm saying he is better known and appreciated here than there because of Journey and it's fan base, not the short term fan base that just arrived with Arnel and couldn't name five songs from any album before Arnel joined the group. We see Arnel as a part of Journey, not a hero or superstar but part of a great group that cemented it's legacy between the years of 1981 and 1983 and have been paying tribute to that era for the last 25 years. I know his fans love him but I still feel the majority are U.S. Based. I'm saying it is two different views. We like Arnel because of Journey. A lot of new fans like Journey because of Arnel. Just two different views, that's all. :D

But if Arnel came in with Ross, Neal, Jon and Deen, it's guaranteed pandemonium at the airport!

I just hope he really rests up and doesn't get dragged around and worn out. I'm sure Neal and Jon are thinking this 3 month break should recharge him for the next 12 months so I hope he relaxes to the max.

I remember watching a clip of Stephen Bishop in the Philippines singing in front of thousands - inside a Manila mall. Holy cow! Talking about a rock star
People were yelling "Seperate Lives!, Seperate Lives!" in the hopes of him playing that huge hit he wrote for Phil Collins. I don't know if Arnel can replicate the huge crowd around him without his bandmates. That would be nice cuz he is a true rock star.

What is up with that, I saw Carol Banawa singing in the Mall once also. I actually went with a friend and saw her again here in Glendale, (Ca.) at the Alex theater singing, also Randy Santago and Hot Dog at the same place. I've ran into Lea Salonga at the Store but haven't seen her perform yet. I think she is out of town for the next 6 months or so.

I respect what Gunbot is saying about tried and true Journey fans. I'm sure there there are those who became Journey fans because of Arnel but Journey has a large following in the Philippines even before Arnel. Why else would Arnel be covering Open Arms and Faithfully with his old band (and eventually got posted on You Tube) if these songs were not loved by local fans?
