Avatars?

I think I must be too stupid and computer illiterate to post an avatar. I have them on other sites that I use, but can't seem to make it work here.

I'm not good at resizing pictures, but the ones I'm trying to link to are within the size allowed and it still tells me that the URL is invalid. Do you have to have a certain number of posts before you're allowed to use an avatar?

Can anyone help me?
Thanks.

For your avatar, just copy the internet address of the pic. In Opera or FireFox, you can right-click on the pic and select Copy Image Address. Then click on Profile at the top of the page when you are logged into the forums here and paste the address into the Link to off-site Avatar field. Then click on Submit at the bottom of the page.

You know, Michigan Girl, I'm from West Virginia and hope you're enjoying your experience so far with Rich Rod. He's a great coach, but he's an ass.

Nothing against you, but it's a law here that we hope he loses every game he's ever involved in.
People ask why we're so mad that he left and we're not mad that he left, we're mad at the WAY he left.

It gets pretty involved and emotional, so I'll just leave it at, sorry about the losses to Utah and Toledo, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

No worries.....they're all asses to a certain extent, but he better get his
ass in gear or he'll be looking for a new home!!!
Lousiana went through what you describe when ol' Nicky left the Dolphins and
went to Alabama....only LSU was pissed!!! 8)

Tried the first post you said and it still didn't work.
The second edited post you have is what I was doing. I have AOL and Internet Explorer, but not Opera or FireFox, does that make a difference?

Thanks.

Photobucket links work.

If you're using Internet Explorer, you will need to right-click on the picture, and select Properties. Then you should see the address listed there. You will need to highlight this and press Ctrl-C to copy or right-click and copy. Then you can paste this address into the Link to off-site Avatar field on your profile.

That's exactly what I'm doing and it keeps telling me that the URL is invalid. Any other ideas/
Sorry for being dumb, but i have no problem doing this on my ESPN sites.

I don't have trouble posting avatars on ESPN. Oh well. They say less is more, my avatar will just be"less".

Post the link to the pic you want to use. Maybe someone here can help out.

Or to post the actual pic, remember to use the IMG button.

I'll try, but what's the IMG button? Where is that?

Top of the "Post a reply" Box. Highlight the URL and click IMG. It will automatically add the in back of the URL changing it to an image. (You can do it manually by typing around the URL, but why not just point & click ;) )

But I would still think posting the link will help, too.

This is what the info should look like you are posting into the avatar box.

http://jrnymn28.homestead.com/files/deviant.jpg

Make sure it starts with http:// and make sure it ends with jpg, bmp, png or any other compatible photo extension. If there is anything after.jpg, it's not going to go through.

I use imageshack.
Upload the photos to that, and there is a 'resize photo' box for you to check. It gives you a few size options. [The one in my avatar is the 'thumbnail' size one.]
Then when imageshack has uploaded your resized photos, click on 'view image', and several options will appear for you to highlight, cut & paste.
Usually highlighting the very last box works for Melodic Rock. :)
If an avatar is too large on here, it sends the pages all doo-lally! So I keep mine small and compact out of respect for the Wombat and his bandwidth. 8)

try using tinypic.com

It's simple.

the url goes here minus the spaces and then to close it, it goes [/ img]
AGAIN...MINUS THE SPACES for everything including the img and slash inside the brackets.

Using my avatar as an example:
http://i34.tinypic.com/2lsf8f9.jpg
add the at the back.

Oh and I too am a child of the late 60's, all of the 70's, 80's, 90's and beyond but I DO KNOW COMPUTERS :)
