I, feel that it has. the rich and powerful use their money and threats of legal beatdowns from their high powered lawyers to keep the poor and working class silent whenever they feel like doing so.

You are correct. And it has been witnessed all over the internet as well, from what I have been told, even on this board by the celebrities (and their goons) that we discuss.

Money does strange things to people...........................

As an afterthought, if ANY of these discussed "celebrities" EVER told me I couldn't say or do something, and no matter how much I admired them, I would tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine and to put on the boxing gloves.
Sorry, but nobody takes away our freedom of speech. Nobody. NOBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Goons' is a pretty unfair term after what went on in that thread.
Was that not her right to freedom of speech opinion as much as it was yours?

Playing devil's advocate here, nothing more.

People are too damn sensitive anymore. Fly off the handle at one little comment... or take what other people say too serious or literal.

By "our" I assume that means U.S., and, if so, no. Constitutional freedom of speech guarantees apply only to government sensorship of speech in public spaces; I think we continue to have an amazing amount of freedom to call our elected officials morons and to call them out on their behavior.

Dogmatic behavior by individuals in privately funded spaces such as message boards is a whole different thing. Some folks are just cranky.

I think that's more the case.

While I don't think, in civil terms, we've lost our freedom to speech...what has happened, is that sensitivity has bubbled to rediculous levels, which has created a dreadfully low threshold for discussions that may be offensive or offputting to a minority.

Back 20 years ago, you could say anything and very little could be labeled as 'not apropriate to say.' These days, that list is so much larger, that people are forced to watch what they say in all walks....

My father was 100% right about PC. He labelled it a type of speech-control. It's a subtractive way to limit the freedom of speech, without actually lowering the threshold at the civil level.

I don't care how much I like his singing voice and even though he SEEMS like a nice person, he has this issue with other peoples' opinions and thinks calling his lawyer will solve everything.

Do you actually know the man?
How would you have any idea what he thinks about peoples' opinions (or what he thinks about anythign for that matter) or what his calls to his lawyers entail? If that were true, Andrew would have been shut down a long time ago.

You're an idiot! Looks like we have another Jackass Talk refugee on our hands. You haven't even been a member here for a week, and you're already stirring the shit, every chance you get. At least be a member here for a month, before telling us how much you hate Perry in every thread. Your "I really like his voice" bullshit doesn't hide your true agenda!

Like some famous Beatle telling your fans no more email, letters, etc. because you are tired of it? Geesh. Talk about ego. Shouldn't have gotten into the world of entertainment if it would come to that.

I don't have a lot of tolerance for egos. Sorry for being so "cranky" but trying to have fun on these message boards anymore is like drilling for oil by hand. It ain't never gonna happen.

It doesn't. She edited her post. Thankfully cyndy quoted before that happened.
