Not surprising. I'm hearing child custody and/or drugs involved. Less than 5 miles from my house. :(

Thank you John, I was wondering how the investigation was going. And here his poor mother begging and pleading for his life. I hope they catch the guy and make him suffer slowly for killing that sweet little boy!

I believe the abductor was the kid's step-father, Jennifer's sister's husband. Absolutely horrible.

F-ck the media and Obama and Daley! This happens a lot in the community and because it indirectly involves a celebrity it is a major news story. Are the other people and children that get killed everyday less important. I don't see Obama making press releases saying my condolences go out to everybody else's family when they have this type of tradegy. Same thing with Daley. Going back to the media, on a Chicago newscast of Friday, I heard the anchor say, "Our condolences go out to the Hudson family." They NEVER make that statement when they record the other murders in Chicago and elsewhere.

It is terrible when any child is murdered. Celebrity or not. Especially by someone they know. :(

Stuff like that has always bugged me. This is not to say that Hudson and her family don't deserve for people to wish them well or pray for them, but its true that this would not be as big of a media event were it not for her celebrity status. If this were an average story, not a celebrity one, you would hear about it on the news for maybe a week tops, and only in small mentions/updates. And I'm only giving it a whole week because of the child abduction part of the scenario. And you certainly wouldn't be hearing from Barack Obama or John McCain or anyone else on the matter. (and would we be hearing from them at all if the election wasn't 8 days away? Um... no.)

Fuck, I can't believe I'm going to say this, because I think you're one of the biggest whack jobs on this board, but....I ACTUALLY AGREE WITH YOU! Nothing has ever seemed more disingenuous to me than a politician, in the midst of a campaign, making a public statement about someone's misfortune. It even bothered me when McCain mentioned Ted Kennedy going to the hospital, before one of the debates. It just seems like a VERY self-serving thing to do, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me that politicians almost always stoop to this level!

It's very sad. I don't understand how a person can do something like this. She was very close to her mother and brother.

I think Obama mentioned it because he knows Jennifer and his campaign asked her to sing at the DNC or something like that. I thought it was nice that he mentioned it.

I just read that the boy was apparently shot in the head and Jennifer is on her way to ID his body. I can't even imagine what that will do to her.

The police aren't even looking for anyone as they're fairly certain that he's already in custody.

Horrible. If what you are saying is true then perhaps the boy's own mother couldn't face id'ing the body.

If it saved one of my brothers or sisters from having to see something like that, heaven forbid, with one of their kids, I'd do it for them in a minute, much as it would kill me.

True. According to all the reports I have seen the police have yet to release information about how or when he died. It seems more sad news awaits.

Maybe I'm cynical but am I the only one who thought, get rich, get the hell away from the lowlife ex-husband that's been arrested and don't let him know where you live.

I know they wanted to stay in the neighborhood but the dude was just released from prison for attempted murder.

Obviously a revenge killing. The kid was probably the one he was targeting the whole time. The others were just in the way.

Naturally this is still the top news story here in Chicago, but going back to what we talked about yesterday about this being such a big deal due to the celebrity factor... I had the news on this morning as always and I noticed that they (media) are barely (almost not at all) using the names of the victims. Every time they talk about it, they call them "Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother" and then "Jennifer Hudson's nephew". Not much about the mother of the boy either.

In any other normal news report you get two things... the victim's name(s) and the suspect's name(s). But the ONLY thing I'm hearing is "Jennifer Hudson's..." I wouldn't even know the mother's or brother's names had I not read one of the online stories, and that was two days ago, so I've already forgotten them... but 2 mornings in a row watching the news, I never once heards their names. The only name I've heard with any consistancy is the little boy, Julian.

I'm not sure why this bothers me so much, but for one I find it somewhat disrespectful. We have 3 murdered people here and all we hear about is "Jennifer Hudson" and how her appearances and video shoot are now on hold. They don't even use the victims names - I mean, that's just wrong. :x

Another thing I heard this morning was that auditions for the upcoming stage production of Dreamgirls have been postponed for 4 weeks because it is "related" to Hudson's career. I don't mean to sound unfeeling here, but is that really necessary? She has nothing to do with that production. Just because she was in the movie version (two years ago), they're stopping auditions?

I'm not being cold and unfeeling about the situation, let's be clear. Its the MEDIA I'm annoyed with. They followed her to the Cook County ME's office and waited around for a statement about what happened inside when the family identified the boy and then they described Jennifer's reaction. Seriously, is this necessary? Bad shit happens to celebs too, can we just leave these people alone to deal with it, and if we're going to have it reported, why can't it be about the family and not about Jennifer Hudson just because she's an actress.

Ok rant over.
