I never thought "Friends" was all that great.

I agree with most of those. I never watched MASH all that much but you can't argue the numbers, it was certainly a huge show. My top one on that list is All In The Family (random trivia: AITF had the most spinoffs of any TV show... who can name them all? :D  )

I Love Lucy should be a LOT higher than #9 though.
Friends should to, again, looking at the numbers/popularity and how long it lasted.

5) Curb Yor Enthusiasm
6) The Jeffersons
7) I Love Lucy
8.) Taxi
9) Welcome Back Kotter
10) The Golden Girls

Archie Bunker's Place
The Jeffersons
Maude
Good Times
Gloria
And I think the Jefferson's maid got her own show, which resulted in a spinoff of a spinoff!

As far as I'm concerned, All In The Family should be number one on the list. The show was HILARIOUS and pissed EVERYONE off!

704 Hauser was not a spinoff.
I've never heard of Checking In

The answer (as I read it) is 5 and you named them all. 8)

No... that was 227, which was indeed her own show, but not a spinoff of anything.

MTM is probably second in line for most spinoffs (3, I believe).

Checking in featured Florence, the maid...

and 704 Hauser WAS a spinoff. It was about a different family in the Bunker's house.... 8)

Friends started weak. but after the 3rd season it took off.
Also, its a sitcom where each episode builts on the previous one, unlike Seinfeld, Cosby Show, The Simpsons etc.
One sitcom that is always a joy to watch is Everybody Loves Raymond.
My list in no particular order:

Seinfeld
Everybody Loves Raymond
The Simpsons
MASH
Dream On
Fawlty Towers
Friends
The Cosby Show
King Of Queens
Married With Children (This show was the shit back when it first came out, but watching the old episodes now, one wonders what was so good about it lol)

Nope. A spinoff is a show that takes characters from one show, and the idea is ausually nchored within the original show, as in, the first episode where the Jeffersons moved on up was actually an episode of All In The Family.

704 Hauser was a lame piece of crap that used no characters from the original and a replica of the set design.

The more you know. 8)

Wings was great. Loved it in college. I just marvel that people find/found Seinfeld funny. :? That show, The Simpsons and Family Guy are 3 contemporary shows that can't hold 30 seconds of my interest. They're just not funny. Besides, it's the same shitty humor over and over again.

PS Yes, The Golden Girls was a serious answer, BJG. I still watch that show very often.

I agree with you here. I NEVER EVER got the whole Seinfeld thing. I wouldn't rank Seinfeld in my top 500, let alone top 10! I didn't find that show remotely funny. I never watched The Simpsons or Family Guy, so can't comment. I also agree with you that "Sanford and Son" was a hilarious show. In my opinion, "All In The Family" was a FAR superior show. You did rank it in your top three, so I won't kill you too much on the issue

I couldn't agree more. I never once laughed at anything Seinfeld said or did. He came across to me as a spoiled, cocky, arrogant rich kid. I cannot for the life of me figure out why millions of people thought he was funny. His jokes were stupid, and were completely void of any humor whatsoever.

Yet you rate Curb Your Enthusiasm from the same writer? When all is said and done Curb is basically Seinfeld without Network restraints (and often better for it).

Both are amazing shows and definitely numbers one and two in my top ten.
