If we get new stuff from SP.........

If (when) :D we get new music from The Voice, how do you think he would go about getting it to us?
He no longer has Columbia/Sony contracts, so do you think he would go the way of Journey and the Eagles and do the Wal Mart type thing?

Or do you think he would go to a smaller label with it, or just start his own label? Lots of options for him these days.

Also, do you honestly think a new SP release would sell as much as the Journey's latest has?(without the two disc BS). I mean FTLOSM went gold quickly and slowly got to platinum, I wonder how much his fanbase and the Journey fanbase would actually buy. This is all assuming he wouldn't "tour" in a conventional way, but would maybe do some spotted shows in support of the release.

Now, please don't respond with the same tired "he'll never do this" response, because we don't know for SURE that he will, but there are signs that it could. I'm talking about, if it DOES happen.

On a final note, I often wonder what it would be like to hear the 1978 SP sing Faithfully, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, or Don't Be Down On Me Baby. And to hear the Frontiers/TBF SP sing Pateintly or Homemade Love type stuff, which he would have to approach differently. Whatta ya think?

I suspect that Perry would send each of us an autographed copy of his new release. I suspect he would get it to us through FEDEX

He'll NEVER do this!

Why??? He sounded just fine singing it in 1983!

I have vague memories of him discussing how the Internet has changed distribution of music so much, and how he 'found it an interesting concept' or words to that effect.

Who knows? When/if it happens, I'll buy it, that's my main issue  8)

I hope he checks the box for "signature required".
I would hate to miss my delivery.

I figure the next release, if any, will be an Essential Steve Perry compilation with *maybe* one or two new tracks. My money is on Perry shuffling off this mortal coil before any other new material is released.

Well, thanks!
I didn't say he didn't sound fine, I actually like the Frontiers and beyond Perry better, I just wondered how he'd approach it at the time, with the way he changed his voice.

And you really think that's how he'd get us the music, huh? And you think I'M delusional?

I think that if he does do something, Sony will probably pony up the dough for ONE album and they'll see how it does. I can't see him doing an independent deal. Steve Perry on "Sub Pop" that'd be cool!
But, see, that's the thing. IF PERRY WERE WORKING ON AN ALBUM- He'd have to have a record company first. And you can BET that any record company that got him would have released that news: "Capitol signs Steve Perry" or whatever. THAT would be more a true indication that something is forthcoming more than any lunchtime conversation. Granted, he can be working on Demos for the record, but I've been working on demos for my record since I was 15. It'll never come out...

He'll go through CD Baby and other small online distributors, and we'll have a chart thread and we'll compare it to Revelation's sales and debate if one sale equals two sales because the Rev package has two discs equaling two sales and Arnel sucks and Perry walks on water and Neal owes alimony and Cain lets you live and on and on and on and on....

My bet would be a Sony release.

Or do you think he would go to a smaller label with it, or just start his own label? Lots of options for him these days.

There really aren't any small American labels anymore. Anyone who used to be is pretty much owned by someone these days. If he self-released it would be through a corporate partnership like Wal Mart or Best Buy, but I couldn't see that happening. A one-off by Sony seems the most practical.

Also, do you honestly think a new SP release would sell as much as the Journey's latest has?(without the two disc BS). He'll re-record Journey's GH to make the cd package a double album so it counts as two sales.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it "worked" for Neal, and that was one of the probably top 3 worst decisions that band EVER made. I can't for a minute conceive the idea that SP would ever do that but god, if he did, I swear, I'd just cry.

Yeah I do. Even if Journey hadn't done it, and SP did, I'd say the same thing. But if he did that right after Journey did... wtf? THAT would just look all kinds of bad. But I can't even entertain a "what if" here, because I seriously don't think he'd ever go and record those songs over again. If he did, I'd find the means to personally contact him and ask him straight up if he'd lost his ever-lovin' mind.

I might be too involved in this wacky hypothetical.
