OK well that makes total sense!

I got to the polling place, less than a quarter of a mile from our home, at about 5:55. The polls opened at 6:00 and the election officials came out around 6:20 and announced that none of the five voting machines were ready. The line by this time was a block and a half long. I've never even had to wait outside the building before. Finally, they came out about 10 minutes later and announced that now 2 of the machines were working. I finally got to vote around 7:10 and all the machines were working by then.

I think it's awesome that so many people were out to vote! Any other stories?

Actually it does because not everyone knows who they are voting for ahead. Some are on the fence until the time comes they have to fill out the ballot. Especially with this election since it's in my opinion neither side has given us great choices.

Do you have early voting in your state? And can you get an absentee ballot for no good reason, just that you dont' want to wait in line? We can in Florida. After the Bush/Gore election, they changed a lot of things to make it better. They said in our county (Orange County) alone that 45 % of registered voters had already voted by other means so they expect shorter lines today. The lines for early voting were 2 hour waits because there are less places you can go to vote than on election day.

Yeah, I could've voted earlier if I had wanted to but it worked out okay. I was able to get to work on time. I would've had to wait in line anyway even if I had gone to vote early.

Like StevePerryHair I live in the Orlando area. My county has had three-hour to four-hour lines for early voting. So I took off this morning to go b/c of more precincts. I was afraid early voting b/f going to work this morning would be too long, and I can work out of my house. My theory is the lines should be shorter than the early voting lines today at midmorning. At the very least, it couldn't be any worse. I'm going at ten. I will let you know how it goes. I'm bringing a book just in case.

I actually requested an absentee ballot this year for the first time. I prefer to vote in person but with the lines as long as they have been and having running around to do with the kids, I figured it would be easier.

It probably wouldn't matter where I live. I live in Hamilton County and it probably votes 70-80% Republican.

Get your absentee its so easy.I had mine sent in about 3 weeks ago. So its been over for me.heehee

Almost voted Libertarian, but ended up going with McCain.

Just got back from voting. More people voting than normal, but still not too long of a wait.

My three year old came as well - she's "voted" in the last three elections we've had. She also insisted on bringing her American Flag - totally her own idea.

They need to get rid of the voting machines! Paper ballots. Like I used.
