Are there any clips of Journey doing this with Arnel? I can't find any on Youtube. Did they even do this song on the recent tour?

I'd like to hear Arnel's version.

Did Journey ever play this live on the Raised on Radio tour?

Info?

You won't find any clips. They haven't done it since the ROR tour as far as I'm aware.

I don't think it's ever been performed live by Journey.

That's not a track Augeri could have ever pulled off, and I'm sure that Neal knew that. The notes at the end of that track would have destroyed him. I suspect Arnel actually might be able to pull those notes off.

You may be thinking of When You Love A Woman which SA performed on earlier tours but I don't think made an appearance much after that.

I agree. Jeremey rocks. He would have done a great job with Journey.

That's the song and video I complimented Jeremey on last night on another thread. I told him he needs to put it in his set list permanently. :D

I think if Arnel sings it, the high notes a the end are going to come out like gargled glass. When I saw him live he doesn't appear to me to have a clean, alto type range (or whatever it is that Perry does at the end of that song), .. I think there is a reason Perry never sang it live. As has been said in some of his interviews, he knew which songs would blow his voice out, if included in the setlist.

I understood that the song had never been played before, by any era of the band.
However, i do recall someone once posting on some site (can't recall which site) that the band did in fact play it in Seattle, WA on the 4th or 5th show on the ROR tour, as they were there. I have never come across a boot of that show though, and it was to my knowledge, never played again. It certainly never has been since Perry.

I've reached the point I don't want any more AP covers. WYLAW and TPIYH were cool but enoughs enough.

I wasn't into the JSS covers and I'm tiring of AP doing them as well.

It sounds like it's time to find a new band to listen to, because the "covers" thing isn't going away anytime soon. Neal has been committed to being a cover band since Perry decided to collect Social Security

Exactly. A few live clips? Ok. A throwaway cd in a marketing deal, fine. But give up screwin' with what doesn't need fixing. The Perry tracks are gold standard for Journey. Either do some original stuff or stay on vacation.

I will say, and no disrespect to Jeremy's version cause I love me some Frontiers. But this is one song I don't want to hear anyone else but Perry singing...ever! I can handle most of the catalog being covered because that's what happens when you change singers. But leave this one (along with maybe 2 or 3 others) alone!

Agreed, no more covers. Arnel should be against them also as he needs songs with his name on the writing credits to start making some decent royalties.

I too am ready for new music. I don't want to hear anyone else sing this song also... Just doesn't seem right for anyone else to cover it.

Well, that's my "number one" favorite song of Journey and one of Steve Perry best vocal performances EVER, ranked up there with Patiently. I listen to WCTNGOF all the time. Having said that, I really think Jeremey does a beautiful job and I would enjoy seeing him perform it live. That's saying a lot coming from me. The problem is, Steve Perry couldn't even sound like he does on the album live with that song now.

And as far as Arnel next year, he has really surprised me with certain songs that he nails that I wouldn't think possible. So if he can do it, I'm all for it. It's on my wish list for next year. And if it's not quite right for Arnel, that's okay. I've got plenty more on my wish list for the next tour. .

No offense to Jeremey, or anyone, but what is the fascination with this singing? At times he 'sounds' a bit like Steve, with certain inflections. But he has to contort his face and make these faces to do it. It comes across a bit forced. I'd say the same about Hugo. Arnel, and Kevin are the only ones who don't seem to have to force it. Not trying to be a curmudgeon. If he has a voice - use it on original stuff. Leave the Journey stuff alone, just like Hugo.

He has been taking a crack at doing his own stuff. Check it out.

It's not that he sounds like Perry on that recording, he just sounds fkin good on that song. Who gives a rats ass about facials when singing? Steve Perry would throw his head back, eye brows sky high, throat tighter than a school girls #$%&@ to get those high notes. Hugo? Please...his high notes are about as "loud" as a whisper. Arnel "might" have a chance to do the song justice, but those high notes will be tough for him to do without resorting to "screamsing".
