Detroit Free Press writer's reaction to Dodge Journey

Postby Paloofer » Thu Nov 13, 2008 4:29 am

Random observations from a metro Detroit driver who spends too much time on the highways, with songs that won't leave his head.

'Separate Ways,' or how a new car's name recalls bad '80s songs

Every time I see one of those new Dodge Journey crossovers, I can’t help but flash back to my 1980s childhood. I see the band Journey kicking off its video for “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” in air-band mode, singer Steve Perry emoting away, at one point banging against a warehouse wall to emphasize the vocal “pain, pain, pain.”

Oh, the hair-manity! Oh, the too-tight jeans!

• Car names to rule out in the future: the Go-Go, the Quiet Riot (presumably a fun hybrid), the Bon Jovi and the REO Speedwagon (a variation of an actual vehicle name, so it’s technically taken) …
• “Don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling …” (Sorry.)
• Note to self: Check the taillights more often, and don’t dawdle if one goes out. It’s got to be one of the quickest ways to get pulled over (aside from speeding like mad) no matter what kind of car you drive. Just ask the guy I saw in the one-taillight BMW who got stopped the other night on I-94 in the Clinton Township area after passing a cop.

There is a reason why the SW video was listed in the top 5 worst videos of all time.

I kind of like it too.

But I wish the chick in the video had had longer hair. I didn't care too much for her look in that video.

Agreed. She was extremely attractive but the hair seemed a little "butch." Only SusieP can get away with hair that short. :)
